![]() It seems there has been some talk regarding the whale shark in Sentosa's Resorts World. On one camp, animal activists such as Sea Shepherd, ACRES & SPCA are lobbying for the boycott of such a plan, which was successfully stopped through their various petitions (See: Whale Shark Petition) Their arguement is that whale sharks do not fare well in captivity. On the other hand, another group of Singaporeans want whale sharks in Resorts World(See: Support Singapore To Bring Whale Sharks In) Their arguement is that its fascinating to have such majestic animal to have and see. While I would not support the bringing in of the whale sharks due to the constrictions of space in the oceanarium, this would also be, in my opinion, the only place most Singaporeans, and in fact most people, can get up close to a whale shark. Is it worth it to potentially endanger the life of a whale shark to satisfy our fascination? |
