Many ages ago, it was realized amongst the Heavens that the Humans who inhabit the Earth really thought that their peaceful, solitary existence on the planet would never end. Because of this completely incorrect assumption, God planned out the exact time and day of Earth's destruction (as we know it), and gave the information to one of His messengers to then be delivered to Man. Unfortunately, the angel had chosen to give this information to a crackpot named John, who almost completely got it all wrong. This erroneous information was passed down in the great book - a collection of paraphrases with an equal amount of fabrication in all of its stories, until the time had come. In the early winter of the year 2012, the horn of judgment finally sounded. God has decided that the time of Revelations is at hand. People crowded together at the quaking of the ground as Heaven, Earth, and Hell collided, those who had lost faith suddenly redeemed as they prayed to anyone who would hear them to make it out of this alive. When the initial tremors had ceased, people then looked around in curiosity as... not much had changed. The first angel to be publicly introduced was Gabriel, having a reputation amongst man as a representation of love and forgiveness - they thought that might help. After appearing on public television and news broadcast interviews, he informed the world that yes, this was the apocalypse, and no, there was never a plan like the Rapture, to pluck all righteous and faithful souls off the planet before being reduced to whatever Hell's demons want to do to you. He'd expressed much more good news, but nothing after that point was heard. The world erupted into panic and discord. These few brief months are now ironically called 'The Rapture'. A great amount of the world's population was overwhelmed, sending Humanity into the greatest overreaction of all time by killing off a sixth of itself for various reasons. Some committed suicide because they didn't want to be eaten by demons (and killed their children so that they, too, would be spared a horrific fate). Others couldn't comprehend that their religion "wasn't right", and killed themselves for wasting their lives. Some just... really didn't want to see what was going to happen, nor did they want any part of it ever. Mass suicides erupted in Asia and Africa, leaving whole regions unpopulated, and many cities now seem much more easy to breathe in. Overall, after the families of the suicides picked up the pieces, it was much easier to live out an average day-to-day. Grocery lines were a lot smaller, traffic was smoother, and the oil crisis didn't seem that that big a deal anymore. People actually started talking to each other again, maybe even going so far as to be friendly, what with a common loss shared. The demons came last. The first sighting of one was in Anaheim, California, where a small boy was hugging a monster in Disneyland because he thought the fellow was a mascot from Monsters Inc. The monster then proceeded to eat the child and managed to maim three security guards before being shot down. Many more began to appear around the area, and soon humans were gathering their belongings and leaving California in hopes of dodging a similar situation as the boy child. This maneuver would prove fruitless, as demon sightings were popping up everywhere. Next to come were the signs of segregation, marking designated 'human only' places where demons would be arrested if caught. This natural act sparked the interest of many more civilized and intellectual demons. A organization called the CDR (Coalition for Demon Rights) was formed, headed by an Influence by the name of R.P. Wiley. He stated in a public conference that there are about as many bad demons as there are bad humans, and that the two species aren't so different, which means they ought to have the same rights. Unfortunately, being a demon gave him too much of a disadvantage. He was assasinated before he could actually do anything. Most demons have shied away from taking up his mantle for fear that they, too, will become targeted. However, because the rest of the world now knew that demons were far from unkillable, humanity's fear soon turned to hate, and a great misjustice then swept across Earth. We began once again to see lynching, bodies of demons wafting gently in the breeze after being tethered and their necks wrung in the bows of old oak trees. Many demons found themselves wishing to remain on Earth, but without a means for money, turned to crime. Others work dead-end, minimum wage jobs in an attempt to make ends meet. When the crime rate rose, the American Government created another association called the HDB (Human Defense Bureau) which specialized in demon-related felonies. The government enlisted the help of both demons and angels for this plan, giving a handful of them good, well-paying jobs in exchange for capturing (sometimes silencing) their brethren. Angels, on the other hand, were having the direct opposite happen to them. Archangels must continuously appear to the public through mass media in order to ensure them that everything is alright, lest another 'Rapture' happen (hand-feeding Lucifer 1,000,000,000 new souls didn't go over well with the Holy Father). Angels are welcome where humans are, too welcome. Believing in the fables presented by the Bible, humans will often swarm an angel if one appeared, begging for a longer life, someone to heal their sick kid or bring someone back from the dead, which is a completely ridiculous request. Some have even been the victims of prejudice murder, whether the attacker was just jealous or maybe blamed God for the state of their shitty lives, and so killed the messenger. Now, half a year later since this all began, everyone's trying to get their lives back in order and adapt to these new changes. The novelty of living next door to an angel or demon will not wear off until quite some time in the future, as they are still rare. Most humans have still never laid eyes on one. THINGS TO REMEMBER - CDR (Coalition for Demon Rights): Created by R.P. Wiley (deceased) to protect the rights of demons. The Coalition has disbanded since his assassination. - HDB (Human Defense Bureau): Organization created by the American Government to handle the crimes of supernatural entities. Utilizes humans, angels, and demons alike. - "The Rapture": Three-month period directly following the announcement of the Apocalypse when one billion people in the world killed themselves and/or their families. - Racism: People love Angels, want more of them, and really really hate demons. - Supernatural entities wishing to continue their existence on Earth are getting jobs and entering the human social network.
