Time of Day: Morning
Place: Weapon X

Today wasn't going to be a good day, Chris could tell that before he opened his eyes. A genius he was not, the amount of stupid things he'd done in pursuit of some sort of entertainment in his small hometown was an excellent testimony to his idiocy. On the other hand he wasn't a total dunce. Chris had just enough intelligence and common sense to know that any day that started off with the migraines before he opened his eyes would be a day of aspirin and not being able to focus on his classwork. Apparently the migraine that had started up on his date wasn't over yet. It had only gotten worse over the night. As far as Chris could remember, they had never been this bad.

It would have been nice if he could have remained in that moment of peace, because as Chris's mind slowly decided to jump into the world of awake, he was hurtling towards a hellish existence. How many poor unfortunate souls like himself only had a scrap of peace granted to them when they weren't even awake to enjoy it? Even that tiny morsel was slipping away as his sluggish mind wondered over a few details, such as why his pillow had a funky smell, and how the heck did he get home from the movie when his migraine made just walking in a line close to impossible. Like a ticker-tape parade, pieces of the prior evening started falling onto the teen's heavy head.

Of course he couldn't believe that what had happened was real. Chris Bradley was totally, hopelessly average in a town so small that a new shipment of gossip papers was considered a thrill. Having helmet-headed, muscled mountains charging at you, and fuzzy blue elf demons trying to kidnap you was more likely to happen in a video game then your life, especially if you wanted some level of excitement like Chris had. It had to have been a dream that came from the movie he walked out on.

He sat up, eyes still closed and touched his face carefully. No dream could explain how tender the skin on his forehead was, nor how the world spun about. This wasn't just sitting up too fast, this was a dullness that he could feel in every speck of his body. Even his hair hurt. It was like a major sugar crash combined with volunteering to be a punching bag for professional boxers.

Chris dared to open one eye a crack, and wished that he hadn't faster then a shooting bullet. The floor was wrong, the bed was wrong. Everything was wrong. Last night hadn't been some bad nightmare that could vanish upon waking up. He really had been hunted down in the mall like it was deer season and a pair of antlers pointed out where he was. Cold seeped up through the floor and his body absorbed it like a sponge as his stomach melted. His whole body went hollow, the only organs left were his heart trying to mimic a hummingbird's, and his tongue which grew in thickness until it blocked the flow of air. Chris struggled to maintain a painful, but easier to handle state of brain-dead-ness, but fear has a tendency to bring questions up.

What day is it? How long was I out? Where am I? Did Donna get home safe? Do Mom and Dad know I'm gone? Why me? This was the soundtrack that started up in Chris's mind, growing louder by the second. Chris bit down on his lip hard, but a groan still got out.

"Well well, look who decided to wake up." John Wraith, Colonel - head of military operations within Weapon X a highly secretive government agency that currently was based well off shore and in no way subjected to American laws or rules. If Guantanamo was the mystery place that gave terrorists nightmares, Weapon X was it's secretive older brother where a select few dangerous people of another sort were held. "Hope you enjoyed your nap, not so many vices around here for you to squander your time with." He said looming behind a protective force field. The specially tiled cell was quite bare, beside the most essential items. A small cot a drain hole and various scuffed or marked walls. The Colonel cleared his throat and observed their latest subject.

"Oh and before you try anything crazy." The heavily built bald headed man shot his arms up in the air, acting a feint of 'crazy' before becomming deadly serious and cold. "There are measures in place to stop you activating your mutant abilities without my say so." John looked on at the young man. "Mutant abilities, seeing as you are a mutant." He said a little slower for the hard of hearing. With that taken care of, Wraith got to listing the rules. "You've been implanted with a neat little item, right about... there." He said pointing at a place just behind his own skull. "So you do as I say or else, that handy little accesory goes boom."

Pacing up and down infront of the cell, John continued. "You try to escape, boom. You try to activate your powers when I don't want you to, boom. You give me a reason, boom. Matter of fact, I'm very hesitant about letting you live more than five minutes. So you better start co-operating with me and letting me think keeping you on the roll is a good idea." John smiled, he clearly would have the kids attention after an introduction like that. "You were lucky we got to you before you became a menace, now we are going to shape you into something that the United States would be proud of. We'll train you and equip you, making your more than you can be. Forget the army, this is a special branch. Welcome to Weapon X."

John slid his hand over his moustache and came to some decision. "Dr Cornelius is the chief administrator and head of the egg heads. You'll know him, he's the one who will put you through all the fun little tests. You keep him happy, I'm happy. When I'm happy, well, you don't want me to be anything other than that." He warned. "You have a few team mates to introduce yourself to. Get familiar." It was more or less an order and John snorted before departing. He walked down the hall to speak with one of the guards, just out of ear shot.

Having somebody watch you while you're sleeping is creepy, even if it's at home, in your own bed, and it's only a cat. To be stuck inside of a tiny cell where nothing is familiar, in a place that was who knows where, and being watched by what Chris would say looked like a Mr. T fan, was like finding yourself in a scary movie. All that was missing was the suspenseful music that let you know that someone was about to either be killed, or at the very least brutally maimed. Too exhausted, and head hurting too much, to jump, Chris pressed his back to the cold wall, wondering if he'd get stuck to it like licking a lamppost in winter. Oh yeah. Today was going to be a non-stop laugh fest.

"Buh-" Chris started to protest, the sound an awkward squeek, Wraith's monologue steam rolling over the rest of the sentence. A huge mistake had been made here. As far as Chris knew the only thing spectacular about him was, well, nothing really. He'd never made the honor roll, never scored a winning point, never got a ribbon for a painting, though in kindergarten he did get noted for his good nap time behavior. If it hadn't been for Wraith telling him that his head had just been turned into a bomb, Chris would have gone up to that sparkly green gate and demanded that he be released. The problem was speaking up would probably make baldy pissed, and mutant or not, his head would do an impression of a watermelon in a Gallagher act. All the color in his face drained at the thought.

He remained frozen on his pathetic excuse for a bed, using the wall for support. Slowly a hand reached up to the place Wraith had indicated and felt about gently. A small patch of his hair had been shaved away, which was annoying because that was one thing that Chris prided himself on, and delicate stitches made the fuzzy spot of skin bunched up. It had to look terrible, and his hands shook just thinking about what they must have done to him in his sleep. Before he had walked away Wraith mentioned having to go through tests, which probably would mean more needles and being poked and prodded.

"But I'm not a mutant," Chris mouthed, his voice still locked up in his throat. Both last night and this morning people told him that he was a mutant, which couldn't be right. The doctors had said that he just had stress related migraines. He was normal, he wasn't a mutant. They did this to me, Chris thought ruefully at the retreating shadow of Wraith.

As scared and confused as he was, Chris was curious. For one thing what sort of menace could he have been if he couldn't convince his parents to raise his allowance, and how did he end up getting drafted into a program he had never heard about. He didn't even want to join the army. He was also curious about who Wraith had been talking about. With legs that were still a bit unsteady, Chris rose and looked out what would have been an open wall if not for the sparkly thing that screamed 'do not touch'.

Cain and the fuzzy thing had obviously been successful, for hours there had been personnel back and forth down the Weapon X hallway that the petite semi-brunette called home, she didn't smile at them or even acknowledge their presence most of the time,ut with fresh meat arriving she couldn't help but be a tad curious. She had tried to sneak a peak when he (well the physique made him look like a he, but with mutants you could never be to sure)was wheeled back and forth like a lifeless doll on the gurney.

She wasn't exactly surprised that he looked like a lifeless doll, as soon as Cain had returned to the cell she had been given a blow by blow account. And, as always the southern teen nodded along and pretended to be interested for her large counterparts sake, he wouldn't understand that she just wasn't interested on how they head incapacitated the mutant to get him here... she wanted to know why. All Cain told her was that he went blind... and that explanation was about as much help as a back pocket on a shirt.

Sitting in the lotus position on her bed she shuffled forward as she heard Colonel Wraith approach, leaning forward and trying to catch a glimpse as it was indicated her fellow prisoner was awake. Rolling her light blue ayes as Wraith gave his very best 'I'm the big boss man speech'. One slender hand ruffled through her hair to prod at the lump of scar tissue at which the uniformed man was talking about, she wondered why they hadn't made her go boom yet, she was always making trouble... and yet she was still here. Maybe they just wanted them to think it could explode your pretty little head into doggy kibble...

The dull heavy sounds of the Colonel retreating was enough to shake her out of her thoughts, bobbing her head to the side she checked if the coast was clear before she stood up and made her way to the forcefield, her eyes settling on the boy. He was no older than the seventeen year old, she mentally concluded... if anything he was younger, lanky on the whole pretty good looking but she wasn't sure how long he would last. He looked like a bunny rabbit caught in headlights.

“Well hey there,”
Rogue began in her southern drawl, casting a quick look to the sleeping Cain to make sure she wasn't gong to wake him, spinning her head back round the white bangs swished softly. “Y'all got a name? or should'a just call yah bunny rabbit on account'a the way yer lookin' at me”

His mouth felt like it had been stuff with cotton balls and gauze, like they had pulled teeth out or something. They were all there of course, why would those creepy people bother with dental work, and it was just his fear that made all the water in his body dry up. Still being careful with his aching head, Chris ran his hands through his hair, as if checking for additional patches of shaved hair where they might have poked and prodded around his brain. "Chris" said teen managed to choke out.

On the up side, his legs were growing more confident, which meant he wouldn't look like a complete idiot in front of his neighbors across the hall should he pull a very Chris like action and fall face first onto his bed. Chris looked around the cell briefly. It didn't take long, and it wasn't that interesting. Maybe it wasn't so dull back home, he thought. He couldn't tell if it was better to have the cell to himself, and therefore have more space, or to share with someone and have someone to talk to without having to look through a green screen.

"What did he mean by tests?" he asked the girl across the way from him. Already Chris had a pretty clear idea, but hope can be hard to kill. There's always the tiniest sliver that hides away in you until you have been broken down and destroyed so many times that in the repair it gets lost. Chris wasn't broken yet, not the way that the girl was. You could see the tiredness in her. In an attempt to perk the girl up, and to distract himself from what felt like would be the most painful experience in his life, Chris joked "Because I didn't bring my number two pencil."

“Chris, s'nice... not as cute as bunny rabbit but uh...” She shrugged softly, the black uniform wrinkling against her skin “We can work on that” Pushing her small body forward she eyed up Wraith, listening to the boy but not making it obvious that she was paying attention at all. She nipped at the skin on her lower lip as she watched the colonel depart, not without giving unheard instructions to the guards...

That made her suspicious. Were they gonna test the boy now?

An involuntary giggle escaped her lips before she quickly clamped one hand over it, glancing over her shoulder at Cain once more. She took the time looking away to take a deep breath and forcing her expression back to its usual sullen look, she didn't want to give the guy any ideas. Turning back she ran her hand roughly through her hair and shrugging once more.

“Depends what'cha can do sugah, can y'all ah dunno... fly? or... uh...” There were so many possibilities it almost overloaded the young girls brain, if the weapon x team was anything to go by... Hell if the people they tried to capture were anything to go by then this boy could do just about anything “Ya said y'all weren't a mutant, ya obviously are sugah... they can check there things... have ya been doin' anythin' strange lately?”

It was a little hard not to stare at Rogue, but Chris was only human, and even if this was a horrible place to wake up in, and horrible things were on the agenda, he couldn't help but look. Of course he regretted it the second he did it. This wasn't the time to think about such things, and less then twenty-four hours ago, (hopefully), he had been on a date with Donna, the world's most perfect girl.

Chris gave another groan as more questions popped up. None of them were something that he really wanted to face. Would he ever get home and get a chance to ask her out again? Did his parents even know that he was alive? For a minute he gave serious consideration to calling back that bald guy and asking for some answers. How could they do this to him, and not even fill him in on what was going on with his family? They must think that he was too big of a threat to society to even say "Hey Mom, I just got taken away by some people, the car's still at the mall."

Bitting a lip and clenching a fist, Chris took a defiant stance. He was getting annoyed, no pissed off that nobody wanted to tell him anything useful, other then his head was now loaded with explosives. Even worse was people trying to shove this crap about him being a menace, a mutant, and that he was about to do something to atone for some sin that he hadn't committed. "I'm not a mutant," he firmly declared, "I don't do anything. I've never even flown in a plane, or made a giant leap, or anything like that. I'm just Chris, not Sparky like Helmet Head said."

Because he was so frightened, and so angry Chris dropped himself onto the 'bed', arms crossed in front of him. His migraine wasn't getting better, he was starving, and no matter how much sleep he had gotten, there was no strength inside him. There might as well have been a TV or painting on the wall opposite of him for how intensely he stared at it. Not even ten minutes in here and Chris wanted to take a sharpie to his cell and mark up the walls, or have a scrub brush and soap to get rid of it. He missed outside. He missed his parents. Heaven forbid, Chris even missed his little sister. "What am I suppose to do?"

She got that he was angry, hell she remembered what it was like but he couldn't really deny what he was. She sighed audibly and perched on the end of her cot her hands holding up her chin.

“Okay sugah then why would they send a squad out to capture y'all courtesy of the American taxpayers money if you were just some angsty teenage boy hopin' to cop a feel in the dark of a cinema?” her tone was completely neutral, as if she was a teacher showing the new guy the ropes.

She jerked her head towards her cellmate “Cain called ya sparky huh? Well...” Her crystal blue eyes fell down to her boots, noting every loop of her laces as the cogs turned in her head “Ah mean can you do anythin with fire? Or 'lectricity?”

Chris jutted his jaw out, defiance settling into his face. "How am I suppose to know what was on those crack-jobs minds? And it's not like the government hasn't made mistakes before." What mistakes Chris wasn't sure, but you didn't have to turn the news on at night to hear people gripe about every little move that the president made, or the need for a change. The line about trying to cop a feel he let slide, partially because it had been a little bit true.

He pulled his legs up onto his bed and let his poor head rest there, his arms pulling his knees tighter into his body. By now his stomach had decided to be a part of his body again, but only under the condition that there could be a hard and small pit in it. The girl had a point, and the sooner he figured out what it was that they expected of him, the better off he would be when it came time for the freaky tests that were still to come. It was weird though how as terrified as he felt, choosing to allow the chance that he was here for a reason kept his heart from exploding from the speed. It wasn't like he could do much in there anyways.

After a rather shaky breath Chris started to answer Rogue's question. "Nothing with fire. I almost burnt an eyebrow off once starting up the grill, but that was because of too much fuel," he admitted, slightly embarrassed still about that. He had meant to help cook dinner, not turn it into briquettes. Although the memory of the deep burnt food did spark something in him.

"I get these migraines, actually I've got one right now," he said, pausing to think, "The doctors said it was stress you know?" Chris lifted his head to see if she was still following him. "They're pretty bad luck. Sometimes they hurt so much I think my skull's going to split right down the middle, like I've got a coconut for a head. When they get real bad, stuff happens. Like the toaster dying, the microwave exploding. Before yesterday the worse one happened when my house short-circuited. When it isn't so bad, socks like to stick to my shirt."

“Heck y'all ain't s'post to know whats goin' on in their heads, wouldn't be good gov'ment spooks if they did...” She heaved a sigh before stretching her legs out an giving him a wry smile “Plus its my job to get all up in peoples heads” Even after all this time spent in the godforsaken compound in a country she'd never really heard of until she was dropped here, her southern accent was still as tick as syrup.

She let out a small hollow laugh as the boy began to explain the circumstances that lead to him being opposite her in a cell “An' nobody thought it was a tad suspicious that'cha exploded the 'lectrics when y'all got these headaches?” She asked incredulously, the lengths that some people were willing to go to to hide the truth from people, as if not knowing they were mutants would somehow make it all better, sweep the dust under the rug and let it settle.

Well life just wasn't that simple and near enough nothing worked out the way you planned it.

“So thats, what... static? Like rubbin' a balloon on yah head and it makes yah hair go all crazy right?” Maybe he would get the picture and just accept it if she talked about it like an everyday occurance “Come on sugah, Ah'm a mutant too!”
