Who wants to make S'mores? I'll bring the fire!

OOC: I strongly suspect that the plot line I'm about to write would be international news very quickly. Furthermore, for anyone interested in the real world subject matter of this post (i.e. the N. Korean weapons program) I would be more than happy to discuss the topic at length with them privately as I have had an essay on the subject matter published.

Featuring: Sunpyre
Date: April 3, 2009
Time of Day: 10:30 am
Place: Within 30 miles of Sapporo, Japan

Leyu sat cross-legged upon the ground meditating in a secluded and wooded area near the home she shared with her parents, a home that felt much emptier in the absence of her brother Shiro. Before her on the green grass lay a black mask that she had made herself, a simple piece of cloth to which she had tied a single black feather. Quietly she contemplated in the recesses of her mind the task she had set before herself, knowing that it would be impossible for her to achieve her goal without bringing herself to the attention of not just the Japanese media, but the global media. She also knew that, in turn, the group that had recruited her brother would likely know that it was she that had acted as she was set to. But such was the path that she felt had been laid before her, a path that she would follow to its conclusion wherever that might be.

Ever mindful of the events in the world around her, especially within the Southeast Asian sphere, Leyu was well aware that the nation of North Korea planned to test fire a missile today. She also equally felt that such a test should not be allowed to go forward as it would only serve to destabilize the entire region of the world in which she lived and have negative repercussions on Japan, likely reflected in a hit that the Tokyo Stock Market and Nikkei would suffer as a result of the tests. This was, of course, to say nothing of the fear that many of her countrymen would feel as a result of the test launch. Thus, the path for her to follow was clear.

Abruptly Leyu's brown eyes snapped open. Glancing down she gathered the mask into her hands, tying it securely around her face and adjusting it so she could see through the eye holes. Once the mask was secured she rose from her seated position with the smooth grace of someone that was trained in jujitsu, though her own studies on the subject with her sensei were far from extensive at best being considered mediocre due to her newness to learning the techniques and disciplines.

Closing her eyes again Leyu tilted her face up in the direction of the sun, holding her arms out from her sides slightly as she summoned forth the ionized plasma and fire that would generate the lift necessary to enable her to fly. Within the space of a few seconds she was aware that her feet had made a departure from terra firma. Opening her eyes once more to attune them into the infrared spectrum, which she had only recently discovered that she could see in if she focused upon it, Leyu rose into the air gradually gaining speed as her eyes combed the skies for the telltale heat signature of a large test missile.

After a couple moments her gaze fixed on the bright signature towards the horizon, a signature that was fast approaching. Permitting herself the smallest and tightest of smiles as a victory that she had roughly guessed correctly for the time of the test launch, Leyu blazed in the direction of the weapon leaving a slight trail behind herself as she sped off at speeds approaching one hundred miles per hour.

Faster than she would have thought Leyu closed on the missile that was set to fly over her homeland, adopting an intercept course and knowing that she would have to time her attack to meet the device in the air as she suspected she would be incapable of matching its speed in flight. As she reached the point she wanted to be at to swat the hateful munition from the air she hovered in place and held out both of her arms in front of herself, preparing to trigger twin blasts of plasma down her arms once she was certain that she would not miss the missile.

With a grunt, she triggered the blasts as the missile came into range within about a quarter mile of where she was hovering. She watched, with a sense of satisfaction, as the superheated plasma she was generating made contact with the test device and melted through the outer casing. Suddenly, to her surprise, the weapon exploded in the air though she knew she could not have possibly melted through to the missile's fuel supply so quickly. Reacting, Leyu threw both arms up to shield her face and neck as she was buffeted by the disturbances in the air caused by the detonation of the test missile.

It must have had a small destruct charge, she mused to herself as the shock waves from the weapon's destruction subsided around her. No doubt the charge had been placed in the weapon to cause it to destroy itself at the culmination of the test, a test that would now never be finished thanks to her efforts.

Permitting herself a small sense of satisfaction, Leyu spun abruptly in midair and blazed back off in the direction of her rather rural home feeling slightly eager to see how the media would report on what had just occurred as a result of her actions. After several minutes of flight Leyu recognized, from the air, the place from which she had taken off just more than an hour ago.

Touching down softly, Leyu untied the mask from around her head and pocketed it as she began to walk at a measured pace back in the direction of her home. Within a short time she had pushed open the door and entered the house, her ears pricking at the sounds of her parents' voices talking in hushed tones.

"They had powers like Shiro's," her father's voice said in a quiet tone. "And we do not know where Leyu is."

Knowing that it would not be right for her to listen in secretly on the conversation her parents were having in the next room, no doubt watching the news, Leyu cleared her throat a bit more loudly than was necessary and entered to stand before her parents.

"Father, mother," she began, bowing slightly before them and realizing that they were indeed watching a breaking news story on the television and that somehow what she had done had been witnessed and taped. "I could not help overhearing you just now as I came in. It is I who am responsible for dealing with the test weapon launched by North Korea. I have known, and hidden from you, for almost a year that I have the same abilities as Shiro. Today I chose to use those abilities, without your permission, to act in a manner that I felt was right. If my actions have disappointed you, I would ask your forgiveness for them." She then fell silent to await what her parents would have to say regarding her actions.

"Leyu," her mother began, but was silenced with a sharp look from her father.

"Do you realize what you've done," he asked in a harsh tone. "You were seen and recorded by members of the Japanese military who were observing the test," he continued, gesturing towards the television screen of which Leyu was already aware as his voice steadily rose in volume. "You've caused an international incident... one that is likely, already, being carried on the BBC, CNN, and other news channels across the world! If those like the ones that recruited Shiro see and put the pieces together they'll come for you too! What have you to say for yourself? What were you trying to do, anyway?"

"Father," Leyu began, bowing once again slightly lower than she had when she entered the room, "I will not go with them. Should they come to try and take me as they recruited Shiro I will say no. I will fight them if I must," she continued in an even, measured, tone. "Furthermore, I seek no recognition for my actions. I seek only to protect our people from intimidation at the hands of others."

Face going red, her father opened his mouth to speak but no words emerged. Instead, he raised his arm and pointed a single finger in the direction of her room to indicate where Leyu was to immediately go. Nodding her head once in his direction, Leyu departed from the presence of her parents heading in the direction of her room and wondering silently what the future would now hold for her.

Sabretooth lay prone observing from the small two storey building that occupied the Yoshida's. Must have been some sort of holiday retreat or something, because it certainly looked pretty humble for an ambassador's joint. He sniffed and grunted wearily, the reports for pre-op intel were not correct. He noted that there was another woman in the building beside the target. Looks like old lady Yoshida hadn't kicked the bucket after all. His eyes were able to perceive from this distance better than a set of binoculars and so he lay in wait, watching and occasionally sniffing the late evening air.

There was something about Japan, something that he couldn't quite figure. Sure the people were kooky, but it was more than that. He had a very easy time deciphering the language and he observed the customs, something that suggested he had been there before. He swept his rugged hands through his long mane of golden hair and rumbled lowly. Checking the thick black military style watch on his wrist, Vic exhaled a breath of boredom. Observing this post was not what he had in mind. If they were doing a tag n bag, they should just get it over and done with. Not wait around for lights out and play all this cloak and dagger stuff.

Wraith had dropped him off personally this time with X7 in tow, it was beginning to feel like the man didn't trust him to do the job solo anymore. At least there weren't any Weapon X soldiers in the area, the nervous stench that permeated off them just got his hackles up. He was likely enough to have a bit of play time if they hung around anyway, it was a hazardous job and any number of accidents could occur. A slight grin appeared on the feral's face and he chuckled to himself, disguising it shortly after with clearing his throat.

As the sun set behind them, his eyes adjusted for the nocturnal goings on of the little Japanese house on the prarie. He didn't need any stinking night vision goggles, all his skills and equipment came built in. The thought of Rogue and relying on others and tools, made Victor scoff. She didn't look too bad in her black body suit, but aside from a play thing there wasn't much use in her. She was weak. No control of her powers and was a liability to the mission.

The sky had turned dark by the time they were given the go ahead, could've been something to do with this kids powers. They were shunted out here in a big hurry something about nuclear threat or some garbage. Cover story or not, the plan was the same, get more meat for the machine. If this chick was able to do some fancy radioactive stuff, then it should've been Vic with Cain. The two heavy hitters, not some girl who get's emo on every person they touch. "There's the signal." He said and watched as the lights went out upstairs.

Creed stood and unfurled himself like a giant muscled cat, he looked at his partner and scoffed again. "You gonna need hit?" He asked and offered his palm in case she needed a power boost. Grumbling and eager to get this thing over and done with, X2 took off like a shot. He scampered down the small emankment silently and skillfully as he crossed the divide between them and the building. As he built his momentum, Creed's senses became hyper aware of the surroundings and counted for distance and elevation. With a short burst of air like an acrobat exclaiming 'hup' he tensed his powerful thighs and lept up into the air. Claws springing free, he caught hold of the wall and scaled his way towards the window where the target was spotted. He peered through, his eyes flashing golden brown for a second like cats eyes.

As she leaned on the binoculars lazily she couldn't help but think that this was the most bored she had ever been, covert was not how they usually played this game. Bag 'em and tag 'em not wait around and take them out on a date or whatever, surely they could've burst in and made it look all government like instead of all this... waiting. She had the patience of a firecracker and she doubted Vics fuse was any longer than hers, probably another one of Wraiths sadistic tests, see how long it took for one to turn on the other... she'd give it another 5.

The teen shifted uncomfortably in the tight black suit as she watched the most unimpressive family in all of Japan, sure they had a mutie kid but hell she'd heard about all this kinky stuff going on in these parts. Well this was the equivalent of watching paint dry.

As the sky turned dark She snapped on the night vision goggles, discarding the binoculars as Vic signaled that it was their time to shine, She pushed herself up with a small grunt stretching all the kinks that lyng on the ground for a couple of hours formed. She eyed up the mans large hairy hand and sneered in respone “Ah'll only have the likes of ya'll in mah head if its really life threateningly needed, thanks all the same Vic”

She rolled her eyes as he pounced down the hill, the small southern gal hot on his heels as she pushed herself into a quiet run, closing in on the house quickly, She watched as her partner deftly scaled the building... she had other ideas, if one of them was coming at the target from the outside then one should come from the inside. Flattening herself against the wall next to the door she unclipped the handgun from her utility belt, quietly attaching the silencer before aiming at the lock and shooting the door open. Well it was quieter than smashing the damn window...

After turning out the light in her room Leyu yawned softly and she had just seated herself on the edge of her bed in preparation for slipping under the covers of her bed and drifting off to sleep. Suddenly, she decided to do something slightly out of character for her in performing her evening bedtime ritual. Standing up she padded softly from her room and back down the stairs into the kitchen, deciding that she wanted a glass of water before calling it a night.

Quietly she entered the kitchen and moved over to the cabinet that she knew held the family's glasswear. Reaching up slightly she pulled open the cabinet door and removed a glass before shutting the door softly and crossing to the kitchen sink. As she filled the glass with water she reflected on the day's events and what she had done in destroying the test missile.

Her father had been more than a little angry with her over what she had done. Not because she had destroyed the missile, but because of the unwanted attention she might have called down on either herself or her family. As she turned off the water spigot she knew that her father was right that she had risked attention and though she would never admit it to him, she still felt that she had taken the correct action in light of the current geopolitical situations developing in Southeast Asia. Of course, she also reflected that her father probably knew more about what was happening than she did as he was a diplomat.

Hearing an odd noise coming from the direction of the front door Leyu set down her half empty water glass and surreptitiously powered herself up, though she was careful to maintain a tight control on how much she powered her abilities. The last thing she wanted to do was to accidentally burn down the house, though she knew that generally speaking she had pretty good control over her powers. After all, it had been a rather long time since she had accidentally scorched any of the trees in the forest around the house.

Quietly she slunk around the corner to come into a position where she could see the front door, which was standing oddly open. Framed in the doorway and illuminated by the light of the moon. Quickly her eyes darted to the gun in the person's hand and her own brown eyes narrowed perceptively. So, her father had been right and someone was now here to collect her. Well, they can try, Leyu thought to herself.

"Prepare yourself," Leyu snapped quickly, the only warning she would offer. Not waiting to see if her warning had been heeded or not by someone that was obviously an intruder the Japanese girl raised both hands and triggered a plasma blast from each of her hands.

Empty! The darkened room had no signs of the target, but the unsettled bed sheets made Vic think that the mutie wasn't far off. Clawing at the window in large semi circle in order to remain silent, Creed allowed himself in after pushing the thin sliver harmlessly into the room. With the window unlocked, he was able to ease the window open. Immediately a whole realm of scents were available to X2 and he made the most of lost time, a thin veil of smells soft and womanly were lingering in the air. There was something of a trail that zigzagged across the room and most recently out towards the hall. Like following a time lapsed image of car lights to their destination, Victor was able sniff his way towards the almost visible trail of what he assumed was the target.

Trailing a clawed set of nails across the railing above the stairs, Vic's eyes gleamed in the low light. He was able to see the images along the walls, both decorations and family portraits. The soft sounding noises from one of the rooms along the end of the hall indicated that the Yoshida's were in deep slumber. It would mean that Creed wouldn't have to kill any snooping parents. Too bad, with all the time they had to wait for lights out, letting his claws get a little dirty was just the thing make this whole mission worth while.

His head moved even before his ears were pricked by the sounds of gun fire. Silenced or not, the sound was unmistakeable to Victor's sensitive hearing. There was a visible frown that appeared in the dark, strange sharp canines protruding from his lips. With his senses working in unison Creed was able to get a pin point on the young Japanese woman, and by the sudden smell of ozone, X7 had pin pointed her aswell. A low growl was emitted from Victor, that stupid girl had gotten herself in harms way again as usual and worse than that, she was going to make this into anything but a covert mission.

Hurling himself down the staircase Sabretooth was able to witness the target defending herself with some sort of fire balls. That was certainly going to wake her folks. With the father's position, it was highly likely that once alerted a security force would be speeding their way. Rushing this through would be messy, but it was necissary to get away without a national incident. Victor ran down the hall baring his fangs and threw himself into a lunge. He planned to tackle the woman and put an end to this whole debacle.

“Prepare yourself?” Rogue repeated incredulously, firstly who warns an intruder? And secondly didn't people stop saying 'prepare yourself' in that manner around the time of the civil war, she guessed it was just a little backwards here. Even though the warning almost made her giggle she flattened her body against the outside wall, bringing her hand back beside her body, keeping a tight grip on her weapon.

The bright rush of plasma made the girl visibly wince away from the bright hot light, her eyes wrinkling shut for a few seconds before she opened them to see the garden hedge on fire, surely the girl wanted attention, she wouldn't have destroyed all those weapons with her powers. Now the teen knew they were on a time limit, quickly taking a peek round the doorway she caught a glimpse of her over sized teammate launching at the girl... and failing epically.

So it was left to her, the one with the passive powers to try and take down the plasma girl.

Great.

Clipping the gun back on her belt she took advantage of Leyu being distracted by the heap of fur that was trying to get up, Rogue launching herself at her while removing a glove. Skin to skin contact being the goal.

Without waiting to see what the result of her attack on the first intruder was Leyu looked up just in time to see a massive form hurtling through the air at her. With no time to raise her hands to try and blast him from the sky with her powers. And the form was obviously much larger than she was, so trying to smack him out of the air was out of the question. So, there really was only one course of action. The Japanese girl ducked and the large form went sailing over her head to slam into the wall with a loud thunk.

Leyu rose from her crouch just in time to see the intruder she had already attacked coming at her. What the girl, for Leyu could see it was a girl, was trying to do was beyond the comprehension of the Japanese girl as Rogue hadn't balled her hands into fists or anything else. Still, Leyu didn't particularly want to allow the other girl to get her hands on her and so she side-stepped deftly to the side and watched as Rogue sailed past just as Sabretooth had done.

With the two attackers beyond her, Leyu backed up a few steps and fled out of the house and into the yard. She knew she'd be able to more readily use her powers out in the openness of the yard as opposed to the closer confines of the house. Once she was through the door, she rose up into the air. Now, all there was to do was wait for the two intruders to exit the house and then fry them with a burst of plasma, easy as pie.

The big hunter realised his mistake as the smaller girl ducked out of reach at the last moment, leaving him sailing through the air over her head. The plaster cracked and crumbled as the heavy form of Victor smashed into it, sending flakes everywhere, and causing the brickwork to bulge out through the other side. The whole scene would have been comical if it wern't for the fact there were blood stains on the once pristine white washed walls, blood that that ran down the split forehead and nose of the man known to most as Sabretooth.

He groaned and shook his head, sending more flakes of dust off in every direction, a low growl rising in his throat as his mind came back to the moment. His claws sunk into the plaster as he pulled himself back onto his feet, tearing another great chunk out of the already battered wall. He sniffed the air and got the rich pang of coppery blood, something his taste buds were finding aswell as it trickled into his mouth. A hand reached up and cracked his broken nose back into place with a grunt, looking across the room intime to watch the girl slip away from Rogue's reaching grasp and duck out through one of the back doors.

He could smell the sweat and fear emanating from her, the air was ripe with it, intoxicating to anyone who lived for the hunt. But he wasn't stupid, he'd seen the aftermath of just one of her blasts inside the house before he crashed into the wall, and knew from the footage they'd been shown what she was capable of.

With a snarl he grabbed the closest thing he could find, a fridge in this case, and launched it with all his strength through the wall in the direction all his enhanced sense told him she was. Almost losing his footing with the effort of the throw, the kitchen appliance crashed through the brick work and sailed through the air into the garden, leaving a gaping hole in the kitchen wall and an angry looking killer climbing through it...
