[Name] - Lain Sasaki [Alias/Code Name] - Spellfire [Age] - 23 [Affiliation/Occupation] - Vigilante [Ethnicity/Nationality] - Japanese; American citizen [Criminal Record] - None so far, although vigilantism is technically illegal. [Height] - 5'10" [Weight] - 150 lbs [Appearance] - Lain is well-preened and outwardly pretty enough. High cheek bones, fine black hair, dark eyes. You know, the usual. His complexion is tawny olive, and he sometimes sports a well-trimmed soul patch. Now is not 'sometimes', he is currently clean-shaven. Lain dresses in dark colors, favoring dark blue and black jeans, oversized black tee shirts sporting bands he likes, Doc Martins, and leather trenching coats. He isn't flashy in the traditional sense of the word, but he definitely knows how to dress to leave an impression. Even if that impression is left best with the emo, the goth, and the squealing schoolgirls. [Personality] - Lain can be summed up by his favorite introduction: "Hi, I'm well-endowed and charming." He is a long way from being humble, and has quite a taste for carnal things. He is also something of a crazy socialist, and his express goal is to tear down the corrupt capitalist-American infrastructure and build something better out of the rubble. In fact, it's more than just his express goal. It is his singular solution to every problem anyone might ever have. Boyfriend dumped you? Why not tear down the corrupt capitalist-American infrastructure and build something better out of the rubble? After a quickie, of course. Aside from his promiscuity, Lain is actually a good man at heart, and doesn't want to see anyone get hurt. He genuinely believes in a better world on the horizon, and is willing to fight - and die - to bring that world about. [Mutant Class] - Alpha [Power Level] - 7 [Powers] - Manakinesis, the generation and control of mystical energy. It is important to note that Lain is not a wizard, he just generates and controls the energy. Where a wizard manipulates mystical energy for specific outcomes, Lain swings it around like a sledgehammer. Though he has developed the finesse to do a few different things with his manakinesis, they are at the end of the day all just the channeling of raw, unrefined magical energy at its most primal. Detailed below are the various manifestations of his power! Lain can fire bolts of raw magical energy. These manifest as streaks of blue fire! The range is fairly limited (about 300 feet), and they must travel physically in order to hit someone, but they do travel at about 250 meters per second. Physical matter struck by such a bolt disintegrates quickly - though promethium and Lain himself both seem resistant to such damage. He can also create a 'sheathe' of magical energy around his body like a cocoon - this makes for an extremely effective means of both offense and defense. Physical matter can't travel through the sheathe without disintegrating, and his punches cause disintegration! The sheathe can, similarly, protect him against physical energy wavelengths, but not against telepathic assault, concussive force, or similar things. While sheathed, he can use magical energy to provide thrust, allowing him to fly at subsonic speeds. Lain can, by focusing, either dramatically increase or decrease the flow of magical energy in his surrounding area. Within a radius of up to one mile, he can make magic as much as two or three times more powerful, or completely shut down magical effects. Yes, he can be a wizard's best friend or a wizard's worst nightmare! It just depends on his mood and/or the situation. More frequently the situation. He can also bend magical energy and redirect it without necessarily enhancing it or cutting it off - it takes much less focus to guide and redirect a mage's spells than to cut them off entirely. Lastly, Lain can channel magical energy inwardly, increasing his strength, speed, reflexes, physical resilience, and senses. While doing this he can't access any of the other manifestations of his power (though he does maintain his resilience to magical energy), but his physical abilities improve dramatically. He can lift about one metric tonne, run at up to 90 km/h, and his active reaction time improves to 0.01 seconds. Physical resilience and sensory perception are more difficult to assign a numerical scale to, but both increase to mild superhuman levels. Emphasis on the mild, he won't beat down Juggernaut or outreflex Daredevil. [Weaknesses/Limitations] - Nonphysical and concussive force attacks are most effective against him, and he has little defense against telepathy save the discipline of his mind. That is to say he's a harder target than Joe Average, but he doesn't have any special defense there. Though he generates magical energy constantly like a mystical fusion reactor, his powers fail to function anywhere that magic fails to function. In general, he is physically and mentally human, just with a strange ability earned by mutation to set him apart. [Skills] - Lain is a musician, and a rather capable one at that. He sings well, in a coloratura lyric tenor, and plays the cello, the piano, and the mandolin. He plays a mix of folk, classical rock, and ragged blues - hardly the stylings one would expect from a revolutionary, but he finds it to his liking. He's a good composer and songwriter, too. In fact, on the music and composing, he's good enough to make a fine living as a busker in Times Square. He isn't a bad writer in general, and occasionally he writes political op-ed pieces for the Daily Bugle, the New York Times, or the Union Times. He has also written satirical cartoons, though his drawings are sketchy and ill-defined. He is a very capable unarmed fighter with a solid background in taijutsu, gong-tai ji, muay thai, and wing chun. When he's all fiery, the unarmed fighting gets even more dangerous. [Possessions] - A small apartment, an electric piano, a cello, a mandolin. Assorted pots and pans. A few black leather trenching coats. His closet of black clothing. [History] - Lain's life is hardly the most fascinating you'll ever hear of. He was born in Los Angeles, raised in Seattle, and spent his early adolescence in Chicago before, at thirteen, his powers began manifesting. Now for many mutants, this would spell the beginning of a lot of unpleasentness, but Lain got very lucky. Two days after his power first manifested, he was contacted by the Xavier Institute, and he wound up enrolled as a student in a school for mutants within a week of his first manifestation. As a student, he developed his rather agressively sexual attitude and his socialist outlook on politics. When he graduated, he wound up living in Queens. He attended community college for three years, but decided that his music was really much more important than learning more details about math and biology. He also took up vigilantism, something that was hardly original in New York City. Not that anyone cared about originality. Edited by Fox Confessor, Jan 30 2008, 12:39 AM.

Well! I have one problem. The sheath and the bolts disinigrating kind of worries me. The bolts I can see, but the sheath not so much. I could see it hitting back with something like twice the force, making a beatdown hurt the oppenent more, and then when you strike them you get double the force, but thats my only concern. (I'm bias because I decided to play all physical as my Mimic!) But otherwise yes all the way. |

Its come to attention as I review these profiles, what does Lain do to warrent himself an Alpha? I mean is going to BOOM and 'disinigrate' an entire city plus some? Just making sure since we have been questioning others on this very same issue, because with several implications to a single power. And I'm also wondering how taxing generation and manipulation is, or can he just do this all night long? |

I considered him an alpha due to the range at which he can enhance or negate magical energy. He can't disintegrate cities, obviously, but the effects of the enhancement/negation can work in a 1 mile radius - or approximately a 9.85 square mile area. As far as taxation goes, a lot of this was modeled after Sunfire (who is essentially a fusion reactor); the obvious difference being he generates mystical energy rather than heat and radiation. The power itself doesnt tax him, but since he lacks superhuman stamina, fighting, flying, running, and everything else do. |

Alright, that clears about every question I had up. The main worry was Alpha rating with what examples he's shown to have. Thanks a lot for the explanation! |
