Number one rule!! Never!!! Never!!! 'Practice' with a stainless steel sword. That is not what they are made for. They will shatter and steel shrapnel is deadly!! There are swords designed for actual use and a child should never be 'practicing' without supervision and training anyway. Sorry if I sound like a parent...I am :). My boys do not train unless they are with me or one of the responsible adult members of my guild. If you are interested in learning the art of the sword, you'd be better finding a mideval or renaissance group to train you.
