Sounds like it's a done deal -->LINK

I'm sure the hockey fans in Atlanta are bummed (all 12 of them), but a hockey team in Winnipeg makes more sense than in HOT-lanta. :blink:

I wonder if they'll rename the team? The Winnipeg Thrashers sounds like an S&M club. LOL

Rumours are saying they will call the new franchise the Manitoba Moose and not the Winnepeg Jets. Welll that should put the last nail on Atlanta ever having an NHL Franchise again, first the Flames and now the Thrashers

I'd forgotten about the Flames being in ATL. They went almost 20 years w/o an NHL team before the Thrashers, who knows in 20 more years... :D

So they are going to use the name of the AHL franchise? I read on Wikipedia that the AHL Moose will be moving the St. John's.

True North Sports Entertainment owns the Manitoba Moose in the AHL and also are the ones who have bought the Thrashers. In addition they own the MTS Center in Winnipeg. (Remember when the Jets left they were playing in the oldest stadium in the NHL) since then they now have a new modern location.

The rumour is the Team will be called the Moose, not the Jets, the Jets are the Phoenix Coyote's, I' m not sure who owns the name, if it's the Coyote's or the NHL, but with the new revenues from retro jersey's , True north would have to pay a pretty penny for the rights to the name. Since True North has already spent a fortune promoting the Moose name an log over the years they will be keeping the name. And although they will be taking the name from the AHL franchise, this is not unique, the Cleveland Barons of the 70's did the same thing

Cannot find anything on what it will be called, but apparently it will be sold by True north Entertainment to Danny Williams.... the same guy that a couple years ago made news for for having heart surgery perfromed in the US instead of Canada and a former Premier of NL

I'm glad they got the Jets name, in all the earlier articles it sounded like a foregone conclusion they wouldn't be calling them the Jets, despite what the fans wanted them called.

They deserve to be called the Jets as they do have a legacy dating back to the old WHA in the early 70's .

With an avg Jan temperature of 1 fahrenheit I'm sure a few players will miss Atlanta
