Hereditary manipulation would be many things. An example Two parents want a child. They both have brown hair. That means that their child will likely have brown hair. Say they wanted their child to have blonde hair. Scientists are doing experiments where they manipulate the genes in the parents or in the egg/sperm to give the child blonde hair. Hereditary manipulation also refers to stem cell research. Do you know what that is? if not say or look at the link. Also, ppl remember to put your thoughts and ideas down, not just your answer so others can see your thoughts behind it. |

Ok all clued up now and it was what i thought it was but i wasnt sure and i didnt realise their was a link sorry but i think that it should be researched but only to help make people healthy not make blonde haired kids or trivial things like that because we are born like that for a reason and no one should have the power to take it away plus in final fantasy 7 they did that to sephiroth and he turned out super evil super powerful so yea only for health benafits |

Well, I've always thought there was a great benefit from stem cell research, and now that they have discovered a way to get stem cells from teeth instead of an embryo, I think that the research will flourish and who knows, maybe in the next 10-15 years, there will be a cure for cancer. |

Ya I think that there could be a lot of cures for different things that could be found by doing this research so i don't think that it should be tossed to the side or ignored that's for sure. |

I personally understand that it is the choice of the parents. They should be free to do what they feel is right, however mankind has been crossing a line that they weren't meant to, therefore, moving into God's territory. I don't want to start a big religious discussion, I'm just saying; humans have limits. |

heh, religion could be the topic of another question corner, i suppose, providing we could avoid the ensuing flame war... but how are we to find our limits, without testing them? stem cell research could cure most genetic disorders, and victims of tragic, near fatal accidents... we are on the verge of leveling the playing ground, for all humans. i agree, about it being the choice of the parents. if they do not want a fetus used for that purpose, they have every right to abstain. they have just as much right to have it used for science, and the sake of the human race. the 'line' we werent meant to cross is a matter of perspective, and many have different opinions. when is the fetus considered 'alive', is a good example. the church says as soon as it is conceived. many believe as soon as its heart starts to beat, or when its brain begins to form. this is a matter of controversy i dont see coming to rest any time soon. the separation of church and state, though, should keep any actual laws largely secular in the US. unfortunately, i'm not aware if other countries have similar laws... |

I agree with pretty much everything said. I think that its the parents choice. One thought, about manipulating genes to obtain a different hair color, is that even if someone is born blonde, numerous poeple are just dying their hair anywas. I agree that we are born the way we are, and we should stay that way. Poeple with highlights or dyed hair really make me mad. lol Stem cell research is another topic. I never understood why poeple had problems with taking cells from embryos. Do they not realize that it will help others? Do they not want to help others at all? Anywas, i did not know that stem cells could be found in teeth!?!?!? Would somone link an article about this? That fixes a large part of the controversy behind stem cell research, and hopefully it will lead to advances in medicine. |

This is really cool. A great breakthrough (of course the Japanese, haha). This could end some of the major controversies behind stem cell research and it could even lead to a cure to cancer sooner then later! |

i would have to agree to the regulated part, if your not carefull you could start to get to the point of where humans could clone eachother etc. and trust me that is a thing nobody wants |

I say forbidden. There is a movie, that I forget the name of, that is exactly what you are asking pretty much. It shows how the world could be if we did manipulate cells like that to get an appearance how we want. It is good that you are all good people and would want to do it for good health, but there is population control. There is just morality and ethics. In the movie, it's pretty bad. If you want to go anywhere in life, you must see some specialist to make sure you get everything perfect. No matter if you study, train or get stronger, if they take your blood sample and see that you weren't born with certain traits, or have too much risk of heart failure or some disease, they will not allow you. And that is probably what will happen. If you can choose what traits you want, if you don't get good traits, there will be so many others that have had traits chosen for them that will take that place. I can't think a full-out rant or explanation at the moment, but I hope you get my jist. |
