Well at school today, me and a friend were talking about how he wants to start lets playing, but his laptop is crap and he wants a decently powerful small PC that could be upgraded in the future. Being my geek self; i figured that i could just build em a decent mini atx PC using the cheapest of the last gen parts. Gave em a quick estimate of maybe just over $300 US. and he agreed that it could be done bad news: forgot about OS and Hard drive. RAGE. current parts list: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144232 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115090 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157314 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136941 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231313 slap a stick in to keep it cheap, upgrade with another stick and one of these in the future for 16 gig http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118067 going to find new heatsink Also wired via Ethernet isn't really an option for him, and we both have good routers that stream faster than our ISPs provide us, so it really doesn't matter in that matter. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166047 What IS the matter is that if you figured it out, with windows and the HDD, its oh you know, $550. kind of different. also, I'm loving the look of that case... looks so damn epic. edit: knocked the ram from 1333 MHz up to 1600, forgot the mobos support 1600 because my sandy bridge laptop only supports 1333 If anyone can tell me if there are some cheaper parts out there not on the egg or even on it; PLEASE post. I want to build this thing lol) Edited by Crashbash96, Jun 10 2012, 05:04 AM.

Get a decent psu from the start look for something thats certified and over 400w or theres no chance your going to upgrade it in the future without buying another psu on top of what ever else you plan on adding. I wouldn't buy anything under 550w myself because if your looking to add its own g card most need a decent amount of power to get running, an the amount of m8s ive had that have bought new cards and than had loads of problems thinking they need more ram or something else when all it was is there psu was shite. Worst thing that can happen is you have your self a decent psu. Edited by Farmertaff, Jun 9 2012, 04:20 PM.

Yes, but the thing is right now that the case comes with a 275 watt PSU, which is more than enough until he can afford a new psu and graphics card if he deems it necessary. The whole thing is that this build needs to be cheap; and if he needs to put more money into it later when he has it, he can. |

:o thanks for the link, mind you remember the build currently has no graphics card, but is relying on integrated intel HD 3000. (goes to put crap into the calculator) edit:i got 263 watts at full usage + 100% TDP and no capacitor aging. damn, gotta upgrade the psu then eh? >.> Edited by Crashbash96, Jun 9 2012, 06:04 PM.

Nps, and yeah i would get a decent branded one the bigger the better, it will cost you less in the long run. It's not all about the watts either build quality wont be the best with a psu from case/psu bundle for that price. For extra $20 you can get a case and decent psu, Thermaltake, CORSAIR, SeaSonic sumin that will last http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353005 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811233073 Few of them there for $20 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007583%204093&IsNodeId=1&name=%2410%20-%20%2425 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007657%2050001697&IsNodeId=1&name=SeaSonic%20USA Edited by Farmertaff, Jun 9 2012, 07:12 PM.

updated original post -went with ATX instead of micro ATX -500 Watt PSU instead of 275 -new parts give a reccommended wattage with 100% TDP, 100% usage and 50% cap aging of 376 watts aka 25% headway. -Also, we are Intel fanboys lol. -down to $437 out of 400 without the OS... dammit microsoft, why must charge so much for an os :l Edited by Crashbash96, Jun 10 2012, 05:21 AM.
