Black Screen of death?

Problem:
monitor is in a coma, always goes in sleep mode when turned on.

When the computer power button is pressed to turn on, the light indicates it is on, but the screen is still in sleep mode. the sleep mode button doesnt do anything. In order to shut the computer off I need to pull the cords out or hold the power button. Simply, its like a brick that can say it is on or not.

Is there any solution to this?

How about if the computer screen is on. You have to click the power button the screen to make the screen turn on. Example below:

I hope this helps.

Do you have another monitor to try just to makes sure its not a problem with your pc, could be monitor is dead or not sure what you using for grafixs that might have died, might be worth checking none of your wires/gpu have come loose, but i think if it was a gpu problem you might get a beep on booting up.

when I opened the pc up, then turned it on, the fans stops working after a few seconds. I dont have another monitor that is compatible with the current pc.
Nothing is loose inside when I checked.

those bigger fans stop after a few seconds
I dont exactly remember the specs but i got it 2.5 years ago from a electronics store.
What I remember:
3 GB system memory
320 GB hard drive
Nvidia GeForce 6150 graphics card
AMD Athlon x2 7550 Dual-core processor
Windows Vista OS

I dont know what an onboard gpu looks like. I know it has to do with the graphics, but i dont know what else about it. =/

Those bigger fans look similar to this

Is that the fan that stops spinning ?(one in the pic) are any of the fan's spinning or signs of life on the mother board.

What motherboard is it you have in there if it has onboard vga it will have a connection like the one you plug your monitor into on your grafixs card, might be worth just removing the card and try plugging the monitor into the onboard gpu if it has one just to check its not the grafixs card. Least then you know if it does work it's your card if not might be your mobo has died or monitor, So hard to say this way or that without having it in front of me but worth a try.

And if you do take your card out ground yourself first by touching the power supply housing (or pc case aslong as its a metal bit lol), static an all that malrky.

And im no expert just couldn't afford to pay some tool to overcharge me to do next to nothing to fix my pc when i first started so had to learn myself sort of lol, so if you break anything that wernt already broken i dont do refunds :ermm:

Had this happen at work last week (colleagues pc went black screen like that because of the sleep mode)

Wasn't responding to anything, couldn't turn on or off any scroll lock/caps lock/num lock lights on the keyboard, didnt respond to the mouse.

I shut it off pressing the power button 5 seconds, turned it on, it started and immediately went black screen again. I pressed the windows button on the keyboard at that time and the pc woke up... Turned off his sleep mode time and so far that seems to have fixed it...

Is the pc that is broken. Never changed or upgraded. If you scroll down a few pictures you will see the inside of the pc. Above that picture is the back of the pc, those fans in the back still runs but not the ones on the inside.

I dont know what kind of motherboard it is.

The keyboard cap/scroll/num lock lights dont turn on or off.
When I turn it on, after a few seconds the monitor says it is going back to sleep mode. Which then, the monitor light turns orange (means the monitor went to sleep)
EDIT: When you turn on the monitor, the status thing says, "VGA: no signal" something like that but the monitor is plugged in.

When and how long did you press the windows button koen?

No VGA signal = your card aint sending any info/data to monitor so it goes into sleep mode to save power.

If you havnt upgraded it you havnt got a grafixs card and your using the onboard it might be your mobo has died, or the grafixs either way looks pretty grim because its hard to tell whats died.Might even be cpu/ram has died aswell because that will give a no vga out aswell, the fan thats not spinning is your cpu/processor not a vga fan.

Might be worth taking a stick of ram out and see if it boots if not put that stick back and take other one out try again, a dodgy stick will stop you booting.Does your pc beep when you try an boot it up?
