I noticed a short while back that I no longer see people's pic/avatar during msn convos, also all my sound options are totally blank.

Any thoughts, I have run virus scans, rebooted - no change.

My best thought is to chuck this ******* laptop out the window and get a new one .....

Still trying to beat 308 :P ............................ here to have fun!

It's also nice to run a virus scan in safe mode. That takes care of most viruses except I believe rootkits.

Safe mode is good for removing viruses. It only loads essential drivers required to run the OS/computer so any viruses that are on the computer won't be active and the scanner will be able to find them and remove them. Except for rootkits, which are harder to remove and will remain on the computer even after a format/installation of the OS.
