Hey all, noticed that the computing chat forum is pretty much dead ^o) . In an attempt to revive it, let's have a bout of good ol' fashioned nerdy oneupmanship. Post the specs of your computer(s), your desk layout, highest overclock, etc. Whatever you please.

I'll start with the most notable components of my desktop and notebook:

Notebook:
Intel T5800 dual core @ 2 ghz
4 GB DDR3 ram
Nvidia GeForce 9600m GT video card
Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
Blu-ray disk reader (internal, not external)

Desktop:
Intel Q9450 quad core @ 2.66ghz; overclocked to 3.2ghz
4 GB DDR2 ram
ATI Radeon 4870 512MB video card
Asus P5Q-Pro P45 motherboard
Windows Vista home premium 64-bit

The computer I'm using right now is a Toshiba Satellite A205 (laptop).
It has:
  • 1.7 ghZ intel dual core processor
  • Integrated graphics
  • 2.5 gigs of (brand new!) RAM (DDR2 800, I believe)
  • Broken touchpad
  • Iffy keyboard
  • 120gb DDR2
  • 1MB Up/Down connection (in my apartment)
  • 15.4" screen (with a burnt out LCD inverter. So it doesn't work
  • Connected to a 17" HP LCD

(PS: These images were captured with one of the first commercially available digital cameras! It has a battery life of approximately 5 minutes.)

The computer that I do most of my work on (school computer):
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz Quad-Core
  • 8 GB DDR2 1333(if I remember right)
  • 80GB 10k RPM on-board hard drive
  • Server with 4TB of hard drive space, all 15k RPM (I think they're like 140 GB/drive, RAID 5, I think)
  • 1Gbps network adapter (Just in case Google picks Grand Rapids, lol)
  • ~200MB/s up/down connection
  • On board graphics :(

From what I've heard, next year, they're planning on swapping out I think 20 (of the 60 or so) of the oldest motherboards, and putting in i7 are whatever is the most recent, now... I also heard that a few of them will be getting high end graphics cards. Strictly for academic purposes, of course! *cough* (The few CS majors that actually get access to the nice lab screw around on them)

My old (broken) PC that's sitting around collecting dust (too poor to fix it)
  • Amazing ASUS deluxe SLI-ready LGA 775 mobo with ridiculously fast bridges... that's fried.
  • Nvidia 7950GT
  • 2GB DDR2 800 RAM
  • 2.13 ghZ intel dual core. (When I bought my computer, my friends all told me dual core was shit and would never take off. The thing was like $350 or $400 at the time)
  • Really amazing mouse that I can't find
  • Coolest keyboard on the planet:

Dual Monitors, but my graphics card isn't anything special. Could be way better. And also external hard drive of another 1TB.
