I have received today an email from the center about starting to learn hiragana and katakana. So I was wondering how many of us know some Japanese. I will start: I have been studying for about 2 years if you don't count some previous time during boring lessons trying to learn hiragana and katakana. Last December I passed the 4kyuu noken. I know some people say it's so basic that is a waste of money, but at least I could check how well I was doing. It's your turn. |

I've been studying Japanese for about 5 years, mostly by self-study. I have been to Japan twice (for about a month each time) to learn Japanese in language schools (typical 'summer courses'). I don't study very regularly, but my level can be compared to what is required to pass the JLPT level 3 (except Kanji, maybe, I suck at Kanji ).I have never taken the JLPT, but I'm aiming for level 2 at the end of December (provided I can work a little bit on Kanji during the summer ).

ZERO! I am a complete beginner! I´m trying Rosetta Stone, it is some kind of nice looking program to learn languages. Take a look. Best Regards, Ricardo Ferreira |

Hey all, I did a Japanese module this semester at university, teaches hiragana and katakana but little more. Watched 'spirited away' the other day and still required the subtitles so I can't be that good. I found the easiest way to learn the characters to be continual runs of these games. http://www.learn-hiragana-katakana.com/ All the best, Elliot |
