The season premiere of House "Broken" aired Monday night on Fox and it did not disappoint. The show starts with House going through some serious detoxing while shackled to his bunk in the Mayfield Psychiatric Institution. After detoxing he is feeling like his old self and is ready to leave. Remember he entered voluntarily, but in order to leave and still be able to practice medicine, he needs a written letter from the head Psychiatrist and that just isn't going to happen by asking for it. He needs to heal, open up, trust, all the things House doesn't do. So House goes back to being House. An ass, hypocrite and anything else you can think of that fits. He tries his best to bring down Mayfield, but after all its a Psychiatric Institute and House doesn't have anything to offer they haven't already seen. The premiere is tragic, but also heartwarming at times. You see House vulnerable, compassionate and understanding. Emotions that have never been brought to the table in the previous 5 seasons are strongly felt throughout. I wasn't sure if I liked seeing House in this state, but after having time to digest the episode, I thought it was fantastic. Wilson is the only regular cast member to appear on this episode and his appearance is relegated to a brief phone conversation with House. "Broken" shot to the top five of my favorite House episodes of all time and if the season six premiere is any indication to the direction the series is moving towards. Season six could end up being one of the best seasons of House yet. House was broken. I am just not so sure he is fixed! |
