Warm, soothing goo surrounds your body. It's so hard to move, and impossible to think. You may not realize it yet, but you have been selected for the Crew of the Vesmir.

Oh, sure, you may not be capable of anything good or wholesome, and fine, you not even know what space is, but that doesn't matter to your moon-sized captor. You have been chosen, stolen from the only home you have known, and are now forced to suffer the indignities only a ship of kobolds can provide.

Perhaps it's not as serious as all that.

Somewhere between the crystal spheres and the endless void of space drifts a giant, living, silent ship. The Vesmir. Home.

Ah, yes. The art of making a character sheet. Unlike many games, this process will (sadly) involve no dice, and (happily) involve no numbers, at least on your part. It will involve attention to detail, a vague-but-growing-more-detailed description of your character, and a certain about of creativity.

The Crew of the Vesmir consists only of original characters. This means that your character must be unique. How unique? Well, the Vesmir itself drifts through space, its mind searching for beings to become part of its crew. Any bipedal humanoid will do, assuming it's over one and a half feet tall or under eight, possess a modest intellect and . This game includes fantasy, sci-fi, and real world elements. You can be anything you wish, from a real life otaku, to a real fake solid hologram from a distant and destroyed world, to a mage from the free cities, a cyberpunk government spy, a steampunk Marxist factory worker, an orc from a savage tribe to the North, a fennec fox from Domain, a delicate alien with glowing skin--look, you get the point. We want you to be as free as you want. This is your game, and we want you to have fun. I can imagine this would be a great place for your own original OCs.

"But Trina, GM, Storyteller, God!" I hear you cry, "I know I can't play that River clone from Serenity.. But what about, say, someone from the same UNIVERSE? Some nameless NPC from the fandom?"

"Well," I would say to you, a small smirk on my face, "Go to it, then." And you would hug me happily, and I would make a face and wince at your sudden affection, and we would laugh and laugh and laaaugh.

If you are going to be from an established fandom, though, a few rules.
->One, you must be canon. No, you cannot be the Slytherin-turned-Gryffindor-Now-Noble-Brother-of-Harry. You would have had to fit seamlessly into that world, and your presence would not have affected any book, movie, play, cartoon.. Nothing. It may even be best if you don't even really know any other canon characters.
->Tell us which part or time of fandom you are. Star Trek, sure, but are you fighting the Kligons or the Romulans? Do you study Kirk in school? Or are you just pissed off the bastard beat the Kobayashi Maru test by sleeping around? Does the James T. mean nothing to you? And so on. (If you chose to import a DnD character, tell us which version, too.)
->We will not allow you to have godlike powers. Some powers are fine and encouraged, and it'll be great to have the candle, the LED lamp, the 3 pound flashlight, and the glow 1 spell all out at the some time, but.. too much juice and your character will be removed or nerfed. If you wanna play a mutant, AWESOME, but if you make Magneto look like he should belong in SPED classes for powers.. No, not so much.

This goes for all characters: We have the right to refuse your character, or tell you to change anything. Matt and I are very fair, but having the game broken as little as possible, well.. That would be sweet. :awesome:

Important note: While it's fun to play a bitch, a bloodthirsty douchebag, or a werewolf who wants to rip everyone to shreds.. It may not be the best for gameplay. While you can miss your home, being paralyzed by crippling loneliness for the first six months of in-game time may get boring. The one thing I will suggest is making a character than can interact with people, won't die in short hours for not having some mysterious substance (a mermaid would be a bad choice), and can relate on some emotion level other than being terrified, depressed, and angry. I don't want to limit you, but having a functional character is awesome.

Also, you can have as many characters as you can post for. If you apply for another when you have four more that haven't posted in weeks, we will ask you to reconsider. Altaholics will be forced to seek treatment. I understand everyone gets bored, and there will be exceptions, but keep this in mind.

Now, sheeting!

Name: Does what it says on the box. This can be a nick name, full name, birth name.. Whatever you want. We will need something to call your character.
Race/Specie/Ethnicity/Bloodline/Beinghood: Delete as appropriate. This is where you mark of your mutant/aristocratic/alien/mudblood status
Age/DOB: Time is kind of meaningless, since you have all been asleep for thousands and thousands and thousands of years. But a general age range, how old you outwardly look, something along those lines.. Something to give people a hint. Birthday Optional, for those who use them. (Pro-tip: Timeless, 15butlooks21, and Not Applicable are not answers. I don't care how many curves you have in the right places.)
Gender: If applicable or known. Arden, I am looking at you.
Home Planet: Your world, or where you indicate your fandom, or both.

Height: Guestimates are fine.
Weight/Shape: I will do math to determine if your character is made of waffers.
Hair/Scales/Plumage/Dangly Parts: Delete as appropriate, and describe as a appropriate, you pervs giggling about dangly parts.
Eyes or other important sensory apparati: Color, number, size.
Skin: Color, texture.
Other Important Features: Scars, extra limbs, tentacle count..

Physical Description:
Oh, such a good part. The goal of this is to take the above and give some impression of charisma good or bad, as each piece working as a whole. Refrain from putting clothes in this description, as you will start out naked. Do go into other sensory details, though: tone and pitch of voice, accents, touch of skin, smell of body, and.. Well, maybe not taste, unless you're the Candy Princess From Deliciouschromida 9.

Personality:
This is where you include general mood and outlook, how they react and feel. This is where you report the flaws of a damaged personality, the inner strengths of a character. This is a great thing to reread when you are stuck. This is also a great place to keep details vague; until you play with a character for a while, you can't be sure of what and who they are, yet. if what you write here ends up not resembling your character, it just shows the character as growing. Consistency in game is the key.

Interests/Likes/Dislikes:
Hobbies? Goals? What does your character LOVE, HAET, and simply not care about? What motivates them, besides beer and porn? What are their passions? This is always a good place to re-read when you are struggling to find something to do. Keep in mind, all characters will be able to read the ship's native script, unless they are dyslexic or have some other brain troublething.

Abilties, Powers, Skills, Weaknesses:
What can you DO? What are your skills, no matter how trivial? Yes, burping the alphabet counts. Magic goes here. Engineering skills? They go here. Hacking, stealing, swordmanship, animal empathy, distilling skills, parsel tongue, carpentry, gardening, double jointed? All here. Also, weaknesses go here. Consider having at least a few. Well played flaws will win you points. Also, how many languages do you speak? And how well? Are you literate?

Home:
What the fuck is your home like? Who was in charge of your planet, country, city, tribe, family? Who did you leave behind? Where the skies darkened by bombs? Was your apartment reasonably cheap and pleasant to live in? Who were you, when you were there? This will remind you of your past, of what you are and what you can become. What was your home's moral values? What kind of government was there? You know, describe your life and a handful of fandom and planettude.

Items:
Assuming your character was taken in the middle of an average day, what would they have on them? Yes, you will wake up naked, but this is a place to put down incidental details that may help you focus on your character, and what things make them THEM. And it may be plot relevant.

AND DUN DUN DUN, Intro story, should follow your character sheet post. It can be how you disappeared, a day or two before, the last thing you remember.. Keep in mind, though, that if you remember ANYTHING about being on the ship it will be.. Bright light, a sense of softness, some warmth, a second of faintness. Nothing jolting or scary or drastic. Almost as if nothing happened at all.

And remember: Once you finish your character sheet, make sure to put it in your signature, so people can click on it and get to know you a little better, without having to describe yourself every time you enter a room. Even though this is chat based, it really can't hurt. :awesome:

Also, this may be a space campaign, but that doesn't mean you need to be from space. It definitely won't count against your character to have no knowledge of space or sci-fi. The Vesmir uses all aspects of all genres, including magic, cyberpunk, steampunk, historical technologies and futuristic ones, shamanism and religion, arcana, ritual magic... You'll be set. Don't worry.
