1. Introduction 2. Selecting Your Team 3. Getting to Know The Map 4. Weapons in Your Available Arsenal 5. Widely-Accepted Strategies 6. Afterword
I, as many of the ones who have played a game of zombies with me before know, am a huge CoD:WaW zombies addict. A majority of the time, I prefer the zombie mode over regular matchmaking when it comes to Call of Duty: World at War. Ever since I first heard there was going to be such a mode in CoD:WaW, I became intrigued by the entire idea of the mode. The game mode seemed to present a new method of zombie-slaying and human survival, and I became easily addicted. Nacht Der Untoten, the original zombie mode map, had several flaws at the beginning of its creation. From wall glitches to glitches to access better weapons from the random box, the map seemed like it would never be fixed. However, as time passed on, the map slowly but surely regained the renown it deserved. I digress, however, for this guide is for those who wish to know how to survive for extensive amounts of times on this hell hole of awesomeness, without glitching!
The zombie mode on Call of Duty: World at War allows you to select a team size anywhere from two to four players. Selecting your team is crucial if you are shooting for a long and fun game, without becoming bored, and want to survive the waves of zombies that will relentlessly attack you. It is a common belief that the less players you have, the weaker the zombies will be and the lesser their numbers. This is true, to an extent, but not to an extreme. Do not be fooled by the fact that the less members on your team you have, the less your workload in defending your prison-like domicile will be. You see, let's say a group of two attempt to play a game. Though the zombies are weaker and are coming in less quantities, there are more zombies per person that they need to kill in order to reach the next wave. Therefore, it will seem that you are equally stressed (or even more so) when playing with less people than with more. If you prefer playing with less people, that is entirely fine. However, keep in mind that you may need an extra hand if you are unsure of your odds of survival. After designating a party size, you must then establish who is going to be a part of your party. People who will be more likely to cooperate and act as one than a few people who will only go for the points and kills, and nothing else. Attributes and traits party members of your group may need range in variety, depending on your team, but having these essential few may help you in the long run, and keep your stress levels to a safe, low rate. 1. Acts calmly. - Does not "flip out," scream into the microphone, or act like a scared girl in a old horror flick. This, however, does not mean that you can only select the stone-hearted, montonous "burly, manly men" for your group, but do not select the people who will jump out of their pants every time they encounter a surprise zombie. 2. Follows directions well. - A person who can cooperate and listen to others is a bare neccessity. Little needs to be explained about this, because it is common knowledge that you need people who will work together to win. 3. Plays well. - "Plays well" meaning both on their own (let's say they're the last one left, you don't want them to snap or screw up under the pressure, do you?) and working as a team. Once you have selected your team members, make sure they all know the plan. Where you are going, who is covering what angles and choke points, etc. Planning, you must remember, is more than half the battle.
Other than learning the different strategic points and choke holds, you must learn the basic plot of the map before you delve into your mission of fighting off the living dead. There are three different pieces of "debris" (two sofas and a door) that cost one thousand (1000) points to open or remove. Each entrance takes you to a different area of the map (there is the main room, the second floor, and the "Hell" or "Help" room.) that provides you with both benefits and more spots where the zombies can get in at you. A lot of learning the map is off your own hands-on experiences, so run through the map a few times before you try to seriously go for any record or beat a certain goal.
There is a large range of weapons from which you can choose from. Some of these can be only found from the random or "mystery" box located in the Hell room, while another variety of weapons can be accessed from the walls around the base in each section. Here is a list of all the weapons, from my own knowledge and memory, of what is on the map, and where they can be found on the map. Weapons List: * Kar98k - Main Room * M1A1 Carbine - Main Room * Thompson - Hell Room * Double-Barrelled Shotgun - Hell Room * Trenchgun - Top Floor * Scoped Rifle - Top Floor, Closet * B.A.R. (Browning Automatic Rifle) - Top Floor * Sawed-Off Double Barrelled Shotgun w/ Grip - Top Floor * Flamethrower - Hell Room, Mystery Box * Molotov Cocktails - Hell Room, Mystery Box * PTRS-1 - Hell Room, Mystery Box * M1 Garand w/ Grenade Launcher - Hell Room, Mystery Box * Gewehr 43 - Hell Room, Mystery Box * Panzerschreck - Hell Room, Mystery Box * STG-44 - Hell Room, Mystery Box * MP40 - Hell Room, Mystery Box * Deployable MG42 - Hell Room, Mystery Box * Deployable FG42 - Hell Room, Mystery Box * Deployable Browning - Hell Room, Mystery Box * Ray Gun - Hell Room, Mystery Box Note: There are a few other weapons that are not included, due to my lack to remember them. You will learn them in time, so don't worry: be happy with what you got.
There are a number of ways to play Nacht Der Untoten, but there are a select few that are pretty much used by any zombie player at least once in their time of playing the CoD:WaW zombie mode. The first one is the basic "Hell Room Rush." Once your team has accumulated enough points, you open up the Hell Room, use the Mystery Box, clench your teeth, and hunker down and exterminate as many zombies as possible. While this method is effective, it can be overwhelming in the later stages of the game. - Difficulty to Do: Easy. The second one is the "Upstairs Hell Room." Basically what this is, your team waits in the main room for a number of rounds (about five or six) and then rushes up through the upstaris and into the Hell Room. They do not open up the door that leads to the main room from the Hell Room, and they use the mystery box and guard the stairs as another member patrols the three entrances within the Hell room. Common mistakes that happen with this method is people get to cocky, and start to run around. They usually end up being downed, and while the rest of their team is holed up nicely in the Hell room, they usually end up dying unless by some stroke of luck their teammates recover him/her while still maintaining defense in the Hell room. - Difficulty to Do: Intermediate / Easy. The third one is the "Hell Room to Upstairs." Your team again gathers points, then opens up the Hell Room. They wait until they have good weapons, and then move up to the top floor, where they set up in the circular room above the main room where the couch leading into the main room is. This method is very easy to execute when done correctly, and with the right gear. With one man frequently covering the only window in the room, the others can keep watch over the only door entrance (do NOT open up the couch that leads to the main room, or that will cause major problems) with supressive fire, and will survive with conservation of ammunition and random infinite ammos and other power-ups that drop. - Difficulty to Do: Depending on party size and skill level, easy to intermediate. The third one is the plain "Upstairs" method. Your team only goes upstairs, and never goes into the Hell Room. Few teams ever do this, because the lack of better weapons later on in the game cause near impossibilities to exterminate the onslaught of zombies. - Difficulty to Do: Hard. A number of other methods and strategies are around, but these are some of the most common and effective ones.
Those are the basics to surviving on Nacht Der Untoten. The rest is up to you. Will you survive the endless hordes of fascist zombies, or conform to their oppressive brain-eating ways? Only you and your team can decide, and I hope that this guide helped you in your mission to fend off the zombie hordes of the late World War II era. You all can expect a Verruckt thread to match this one in the coming days, or weeks, whenever I get a chance, and then after that, Shi No Numa, followed by Der Riese once it's out and I've had some quality time with it. I think it would be a good idea to create more survival guides for the other three. Or are you already working on them?

Good job so far, I think guides for the other maps would be helpful too. |
