Full Article Teens targeted in net safety push Half of Europe's teenagers browse the web with no parental oversight or supervision, a survey suggests. The research into the web habits of 20,000 14 to 19-year-olds across Europe found that 51% enjoy unfettered access to any and every website. The MSN research also found that 29% of the teenagers it quizzed have suffered bullying while using the web. It comes as the EC marks Safer Internet Day with pledges from 17 social sites to do more to protect younger users. "We were surprised that it's over 50% without any parental control," said John Mangelaars, head of Microsoft's consumer and online divisions in Europe. The popularity of social networking sites such as Bebo, MySpace and Facebook among youngsters has helped them become sophisticated web users, said Mr Mangelaars. -The BBC ... What do you guys think about this? My parents used to use McAfee parental controls, but I don't really think any of my friends are cursed with them. However when we got a new computer and my parents settled for Windows parental controls. I got onto one of their accounts one time and changed the settings so that it doesn't block every other page on forums like these. I Lol'd at the online bullying thing. I dunno how that always comes up, honestly if someone is "bullying" me online, I could care less. And no way I'm giving anyone more information one where I live on than I live in Washington, good luck finding me in 76,000 square miles. I have a myspace and a facebook, and both are set to private. Do you have parental controls on your computer limiting what you do? Would you support proactive work to reduce teen viewing of "inappropriate websites"? Edited by Enspire, Feb 9 2009, 11:29 PM.
