Shoop’s scheme generally has four key requirements:

Defensive ends who can drop in pass coverage,
cornerbacks who can play the edge against the run,
linebackers who can cause problems on the blitz and
safeties who reliably clean everything up.

How Bob Shoop’s defense and Tennessee’s talent can make offenses miserable

It sure sounds like that Shoop will be addressing our achilles heel from the last season -defending the run game.

Butch really upgraded this position. Now if Dobbs can improve his passing, look out! They will have a shot at the final 4 if they win the SEC.

I will be disappointed if we are not much better on defense. I will be elated if Shoop stays 2 yrs.

Yelp, off his last five years at Vandy and Penn St., I would suggest that Shoop is a head coach in waiting for sure. His defenses never finished lower than 25th in the nation over that five year span. He had to feel like a kid at Christmas when he walked into his situation in Knoxville with a first team, pre-season All SEC player at each level of the defense.
