Worley and the defense impressed. The offensive line bothers me. I thought the receivers caught the ball well.our running game needs to be refined.

I was impressed by Justin Worley. he had a command of the offense that we have not seen from our QB in a couple of years. Our WRs can make plays.

Our defense is much quicker than it has been in some time. We fly to the ball. USU did not have the speed at their skill positions that our defense had.

Our tight ends are much improved to where they were a year ago.

The crowd was great tonight.

Our OL is worrisome. Kerbyson had a couple of procedure calls in a row against him and Crowder had a couple of penalties. Our offensive tackles played poorly on too many occasions.

I can't get our poor play at OT out of my mind. Gilliam is likely out for next week.

I thought that Darr had broken his ankle.

Tree hug'n, bleed'n heart, lazy luv'n, global warm'n token liberal

In an earlier post I had laid out some unknowns. Here is what I discovered.

Unknowns
  • We still don't know if our coaches are good game-day coaches. I think they are, and I hope they are ... but it is still an unknown to me. This team was very prepared and smooth, but I didn't see any scheming or anything special ... so this is still an unknown.
  • The O-line is young, and our tackles are actually guards. Everyone seems to think they will be OK, but I just don't know. After watching this morning's Penn State game (and the sieve that they have for an offensive line), I'm highly nervous. If we see Worley scrambling a lot, getting hurried, and getting sacked then it might be a long season. The tackles were burned, the line was undisciplined, and they couldn't open up many holes for runners. This is now a big negative for me. I'm skeeered.
  • Everyone says that our safeties and corners are faster, and that Coleman is more naturally a nickel back. OK. But, 3 of the 5 were in there starting last year and one other is either a true freshman or a walk-on. I absolutely loved the tackling, and the coverage looked good. I'm optimistic here.
  • It is hard to imagine our tight-end play being worse, but when the top three TE's are two true freshmen and a walk-on ... well ... this is a big unknown. Very pleased with this area.
  • Our DE's were horrid last year at pass rushing. Supposedly they are now re-tooled and much faster. Show me. There was a lot of pressure, but it wasn't much different than last year.
  • Devrin Young was decent at returning punts and KO's but apparently Sutton is much better at punt returns ... Evan Berry joins Young on Kickoff returns. Too much newness to feel confident, but I am leaning toward a strength so long as Sutton doesn't return the Vols to the fumbling we had a few years ago. I really miss CP in this role. Wow, he was exciting to watch. Sutton didn't fumble. KO returns were not very good with Young.

I still think we are a 6-6 team, but I've only watched Ole Miss (toss up), Vandy (win), Alabama (loss) and UT Chatty (win) so far.

Worley was a good game manager....Proud for him. Defense looked faster than I've seen in several seasons. Will know more in a few weeks. Liked how we were prepared and fired up....flying all over the field. AJ is Da Man!!....Love us going to the TE's....need to get them the ball 10-12 times per game, very hard to defend.

Piss poor running scheme....OL, not good and when the OL isn't good you've got to be more creative in the running game scheme wise....Got 2 good RBs, got to benefit from that. Maybe we were just real vanilla tonight in the run game.

Darr did good, hope he will get back quick....Our FG kicker needs a lot of work. Do we have somebody......anybody that can run kickoffs back other than DY? My gosh he heads to the SAME sideline every time he fields a kickoff.

ESPN even had a nice column about our game.

Plays that changed the game: Tennessee

1) Forced Fumble On Kick Off
2) 3rd and 4th Down Stop
