I said we would win if we got....

Ten from Barton (he got ten)
Ten from Richardson (he got seventeen)
Twenty boards from Maymon & Stokes (they got twenty)
AND McCrea didn't try to take over the game (for the most part he didn't)

I missed the first ten minutes of the game....but the only things that really frustrated me ( that I saw ) were the technical on Stokes where the big white boy raised his arm, guiding Stokes' elbow into his chin (this caused Stokes to completely shut down on defense for most of the second half - Martin finally put Maymon on Big Whitey to slow him down from his career game) AND the last second shot by McCrea. First of all....that's a time out. The argument that you don't call timeout so the other team can set up their defense is bullcrap when the guard dribbles away ten seconds out front and they have time to set up however they wish. And secondly, the call was inside to Stokes where there's a better percentage shot and a chance of a foul.

I remember what you pointed out well and was thinking about it in the 2nd half last night, as Richardson was exploding on Iowa.

I am from the school that you do not call a time out and allow for a defense to set up and organize before a end game shot. Why give them time to set and prepare a scheme to stop your best shooters?

That was all on McRae making a poor choice and not driving the ball to the hole sooner that would have freed up someone as defenders would have helped out on McRae. That was pure selfishness on McRae's part and something that has to be coached and taught in end game practice segments.

I guess if you've got a strong floor leader but in our case, we've proven time and time again that we're not prepared to close out games and we don't. McCrea was trying to make a play....but he pissed away a lot of time just to take an off balance, poor percentage shot. Calling time out sure couldn't have turned out any worse.

So now..UMass. As odd as it might sound, I think we should be favored. Their most impressive win? Nebraska back in November ??? Maybe New Mexico??? But somewhat like Iowa, they came out of the shoot on fire but faded a bit down the stretch and bagged some losses to teams like Richmond, George Washington, George Mason and George Clooney. Well....maybe not ....but they better not face any team named George any time soon. One big guy of note..... Cady Lalanne, who will have fun fighting our pair of stumps down low....and a pretty good point guard in Chaz Williams. Williams is pretty small....but these little guys with big motors tend to give us fits. They have a seven man rotation...I wonder if Richardson winds up guarding Williams?

I honestly expect Stokes to get Lalanne in foul trouble and have a big game. If we stay balanced....it's on to Duke....

That was certainly a big reason. He's getting quite a reputation as a stopper.....

If josh can stay in front of their point guard, it will be hard on their offense because of his length. We also seemed to be better conditioned than Iowa.
