http://247sports.com/Article/Best-2014-recruiting-classes-by-position-Running-backs-172677 No e=mention of Tennessee here. We will sign 3 very good RBs in Jalen Hurd, Treyvon Paulk and Derrell Scott. I will take that three headed hydra any day of the week, This is the best class of RBs that we have signed since we signed Stephens, Henry, and Lewis in 1998. |

Its understandable - Hurd and Paulk come in carrying the *injury* card. Scott is the kid IMO will be the major contributor this fall. |

I don't think Paulk will be signed or end up at UT. Reasons I think this: 1) We are overbooked and someone or two needs to go. Paulk is coming off an ACL injury and he would be a top choice to jettison in a numbers game. 2) Some have said he would Grey Shirt but why on earth would Paulk let UT or any school put him off until 2015 when you know UT or anyone else who did a Grey Shirt would want to see him recover from the ACL injury before actually giving him a 2015 scholly. There would be no guarantee of that scholly if he Grey Shirted. So lets say GA Tech, Vandy, Kensucky, Georgia Southern, etc would sign him to a scholly in 2013 and his 2013 school would be paid for while he Redshirts and rehabs. I would like to have him but it doesn't make sense numbers wise for UT to take the risk and it doesn't make sense for Paulk to not sign the sure thing scholly for 2013. I look for him and Dews to not sign with UT. Now Dews may take a Grey Shirt as he isn't highly recruited at all. |

The gray-shirt route makes the most sense with him and our numbers. We would know by the 2015 season if he recovered adequately from the ACL injury ... if he doesn't, then he gets a medical waiver and we free up the scholarship. If he recovers, then we end up with a fine running back. |

The problem with the gray shirt route with Paulk is that he would not be able to work with the UT training staff, doctors, and strength coaches in rehabbing his knee properly. We can always use a big back who runs a 4.4 with authority, |

Who doesn't recover from ACL surgery? Some times it takes longer than others....but any more, if it's that single ligament that's torn then the long term prognosis is quite good. |

Although I have no idea, since the first 10 months of the ACL injury is not being rehabbed by UT staff, does it matter? Also, I would think that the UT staff could monitor, oversee, and approve the rehab regardless of who is actually performing the physical therapy. I know that they give out nutrition and weight training guidance to recruits well before they are on campus. |

You are missing my point. Sure the Grey Shirt works out well for UT. If he recovers then we get a good TB and if he doesn't then we don't sign him. But why on earth would Paulk take such a risky offer if Ga Tech, UNC, NC State, Ga Southern, Troy, Candy, KY, etc would sign him to a schools on the 2014 class and redshirt him ON SCHOLLY for the 2014 season. With a Grey Shirt he is on his own with no schools in 2014. |

Paulk may want to greyshirt to save eligibility. Greyshirt and rehab this year, save 5 to play 4. Redshirt this year and he's got 4 to play 4. I think that's true, anyway. So that's a reason he may want to take a 'risky' offer. Truth be told that offer from Troy and Ga Southern isnt likely going to go anywhere by 2015. |

He's not going to play in 2014. So, rather than burning his redshirt year in 2014, he keeps that option open in the future, gaining an extra year of eligibility. As for school, it only delays him one semester. BTW, I don't know what will happen, but we are sitting at potentially 35* committed players, and I'm just trying to figure out how we get that number down. At best I think it is 32. *33 + Mixon + Sawyers Edited by OrangeRev, Jan 31 2014, 11:34 AM.

But there isn't anything besides a big Gamble in that deal for Paulk. Lets say you are Paulk and a GA Tech will give you a scholly starting in August. If you are healed you can play or not then you can Redshirt. Either way you are on a scholarship and your knee injury isn't a deciding factor as to IF you are going to get a scholarship. Vandy, KY, NC State, GA Tech, GA Southern, and many others will give him a guaranteed scholly. Or would you roll the dice and sit out of school or pay for school with your own money in order to POSSIBLY go to UT in January 2015? And don't forget that if he signs a scholarship paper with another team he not only gets free Room, Board, Tuition, etc for Fall 2014, he also gets on Health Care and Rehab at that University. But lets say he sits out on the hope that UT see's that he is progressing in 1/15 and gives him a scholarship BUT UT decides they don't think he is healing well enough OR they see the 5* TB right up the road in Berea, KY wants to come play for UT, and they say "thanks but no thanks" to Paulk. Seems to be a no brainer to me- take the bird in hand and sign scholly papers with some school and don't do a Grey Shirt pie in the sky deal. |

Paulk does not seem to be talking with any team other than the Vols. So, he is either a freshman in the fall or a gray-shirt enrolling in January 2015. I don't see him signing with another team unless Jones flat out tells him that he needs to "look elsewhere". |

I hope Jones is explaining the options to him. This is a cutthroat business and there is little way that UT takes Paulk in the 2015 class if they have ANY questions about the knee and especially since it is going to be a small class with no back counters. And the Top rated TB in the country is right up I75 a short distance in Berea, KY. He is the #5 player in the country right now and just opened up his recruiting recently after committing to MI a while back. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Damien-Harris-142684;_ylt=AnLvDETaRAde5sFLm2zM47tGPZB4 |

I doubt Harris would come to Tennessee ... we have zero effectiveness at getting quality players out of Kentucky. |
