Tennessee borders 8 states, yet we have no players on our team (or commitments) from 4 of them. Without looking, can you name the states? In case you are struggling, like a clock starting at the top: 1. Kentucky 2. Virginia 3. North Carolina 4. Georgia 5. Alabama 6. Mississippi 7. Arkansas 8. Missouri Bonus Question: I can come up with two reasons that we don't attract players from those 4 states (each reason applies to two states). What reasons can you name? |

My guess is Kentucky, Arkansas, Mississippi and Missouri. I would say distance may play a role as one of the reasons, but don't have a clue on your second one. |

Yep. Arkansas and Missouri have many schools that are just closer options. The big issue with Kentucky and Mississippi has to do with pipelines into the high schools. It is a particular problem in Mississippi because the high school coaches in that state are tremendous homers for either Ole Miss or MSU, and this also effects JUCO recruiting in that state - a huge problem because the JUCO schools in that state produce a lot of football players. Kentucky's pipeline issue is more of a mystery to me and I've seen it with a couple of players, but I think it has to do with a betrayal factor. That is, if you don't choose a school like Kentucky or Louisville, then you can pick anywhere but Tennessee. It is akin to a Knoxville kid picking Alabama. |

Back in the day Northwest MS JC was a pipeline for U of Miami. They would send their non-Qs there. I had a good friend who's son played at NWMJC and he said the Miami staff was there all the time. He was there at practice one day watching his son and there walked up Jimmy Johnson. |
