IMO good hire.....maybe the Titans will play some damn offense and not make a damn Pro-Bowler out of our field-goal kicker!

My first call would be to Wade Phillips to run the defense. That man can coach defense.

Ray Horton is the likely DC. Switching over to a 3-4. Locker probably gone. Possibility if picking up Big Ben in the rumor mill.

He's another one of the recycles, so how does anyone think that he can do the job in Nashville?

Take a look at the last 4 teams in the NFL Playoffs. John Fox was fired by the Carolina Panthers. Bill Belichick was fired by the Cleveland Browns. Pete Carroll was fired by the New York Jets and New England Patriots. The only remaining playoff team with a head coach, who has never been fired is Jim Harbaugh, who has been successful as a head coach at every prior stop.

What about Tony Dungy, Jon Gruden, Mike Shanahan? They all had been fired as a head coach before moving to another team and winning a Super Bowl.

Whisenhunt is a very good hire on many fronts. First he is a departure from the the past in Tennessee. Secondly, he is brings expertise on the offensive side of the ball. He has developed other good QBs, ie. Big Ben, Phillip Rivers and now he will get a chance to develop Locker if Locker can stay healthy. Thirdly, he has 9 years either a a head coach or as an offensive coordinator un the NFL. He is not the flavor of the day assistant that each year lands a job and flops like a flounder in a couple of years.

He has been there and will not be learning on the job. He has taken a team to the Super Bowl. It speaks volumes that Whisenhunt chose the Tennessee Titans over a major market team like the Lions who have a top QB and the top WR in the NFL in Megatron . That speaks volumes of Ruston Webster and the Titans organization. Out of all of the available coaches, the Titans probably got the best one that they could have possibly gotten.

The word among NFL writers is that Whiz was really impressed with Titans GM Ruston Webster and his vision for the team.

I'm sure some of the other variables are that Whisenhunt has lived in Nashville before, when he was on Gerry DiNardo's star at Vandy.

The majority of his income will be income tax exempt, whereas in Detroit, he would have been hammered by the income tax there.

Nashville is a much nice place to live than Detroit.

It is easier to win in the AFC South than it currently is in the NFC North.

He may not have liked the idea of Matthew Stafford controlling his future live hood with his arm. Stafford will get his ned coach fired unless he sits on him.

Detroit still owes Jim Schwartz $12 million over the next two seasons. That could have hindered Detroit's offer.

Detroit had a jet waiting to take off and pick him up to be their next coach. Apparently the Titans negotiations kept the plane delayed several hours.

Stever Mariuchi and other Detroit and midwestern sportswriters had a fit and could not believe that the Titans landed Whiz before the Lions did.

The city of Detroit is in bankruptcy court. It is a crime riddled, cold, crumbling city. Who in their right mind would want to coach there instead of Nashville. Truth be known, the Titans probably made him a more attractive, lucrative offer. To me, it was a no-brainer for Wizz.

Listening to the 104.5 the wake up zone and reading stories, Lonzo was right. Whiz was the Titans targeted 1st choice and Mike Zimmer was their 2nd choice.

Many people, including myself, thought that the Titans were waiting for Dan Quinn, but that was far from reality in seeing how the Titans went hard after Whisenhunt as soon as he finished all end of season meetings with the Bolts.
