PSU fan base split in Paterno/non-Paterno people. Word in coaching fraternity is that O'Brien had drawn tired of not being able to please Paterno people. Munchak would please them. Franklin the others. I just wonder with all that went on up there, if they end up wanting to stay away from the Vandy rape case and Franklin. It may be the wrong kind of publicity that wins Munchak the job. Does anybody else find it interesting that Franklin is going for every HC job from the Titans to the Auburn runner up intramural women's flag football team? Sexton does a good job of getting his guys names out there for jobs, but having Franklin's name out for every job can't be good for Vandy recruiting. Tux, Rev, Lonzo, Phil--Is is having an effect on their recruiting? It looks to me that Franklin is trying to get the heck out of Dodge. |

In the end IMO Franklin remains at Vandy and will tell recruits he stayed because they can win championships at Vandy. His postgame presser after the bowl game Sat. he said they would be better in 2014 than 2013. He's a salesman, the kids will believe him. I was just on the Penn State board and they are saying their HOMERUN hire would be Franklin.....gonna be a BIG DOWNER for them if they hire Munchak. Huge % of them don't want Munch. On Bill Kings show today he said he thought Penn State would hire Franklin....it's got the Penn State folks pumped that he said that. Edited by Tnphil, Jan 6 2014, 11:33 AM.

Penn State still has a lot of issues and reportedly it is going to get even worse for them when the sanctions start playing havoc with their depth. The Paterno faction still is more powerful than it needs to be. The Paternoites are very similar to the Fulmersexuals in their worship off the object of their affections and the influence that they have over the program. Franklin is the guy who would build the program back into prominence. Munchak is the guy who would please the Paternoites and keep the program squeaky clean. Munch would be able to land some great recruiters himself. Latest word is that many fans are now siding with Larry Johnson, Sr. Edited by TennesseeTuxedo, Jan 6 2014, 11:37 AM.

Some like LJ...but most...by a lot want Franklin. They had rather hire LJ than Munch. Munch is interviewing with the Houston Texans. O'Brien wants him as his OL coach. Munch is a NFL guy and IMO he will stay in the NFL. |

Stoops Was Never A Candidate for Cleveland Browns Job Apparently Jimmy Sexton must be Bob Stoops agent. Every year, Stoops is rumored to be a candidate for every job known to mankind and every year Oklahoma gives him a raise. |

Tux....IMO several of these NFL teams are interviewing JF to satisfy the Rooney Rule. I don't see him getting a NFL head job right now......Unless it's Washington because their owner is a nut-job. |

The Titans are reportedly going to interview Arizona's DC Todd Bowles, so it will not be a Rooney Rule interview. |

Up until the last week, Franklin has done a good job of convincing his recruiting targets that he's all-Vandy despite the obvious. |

Penis Head is being linked to more jobs than Big Pappa Plump was the two years after he was let go at Tennessee. I think the next Titans corch will be Ken Whisenhunt. |

Franklin is a good coach. I am shocked that Texas chose Strong over him. I think they made a big mistake. |

It obvious why the choice made by S. Patterson was made - Strong vs Franklin. Patterson was, for a short period of time, the AD at ASU. I'd guess he remains on a good terms with the AD's out west. Ever wonder if some of the programs looking for HCes out there considered Franklin? IIRC you were one of the yack yacks about the VU rape deal - over and over again. Gotta think that may have come up in the back round check - and why a tremendous program like PSU isn't interested. Next up - resume' Franklin has done one hell of a job at Vandy - and like many of the private schools in college ball - a good coach can be sucessfull, Franklin at Vandy, Baliff at Rice of recent vintage - Stanford, North Western, Wake Forest - its not a daunting job as many make it out to be. Vandy being a part of the the SEC and playing in the SECE is in a great position to be a 7 to 9 wins a year program. My person bias - Strong should be the head coach in Knoxville - he was my personal choice last year - and after listening to his presser today - further reinforced that opinion. Three things standout - some dipstick media type asked about where he was on the pecking order hiring wise at UTA. He didn't care if he was the 15th choice - he is now the head coach at Texas. #2 - "I'm a football coach" - that caused many of the media heads to STFU. How good a coach? Compare his record as an assistant to Franklin's. Historically the SEC considers itself a "defense" conference. Strong gets those check marks. As head coaches. Vandy has done well back to back 9 win seasons - and a great win over Florida this year. UL bitch slapped Florida in a BCS bowl game last year.. #3 - addressing specifically the high school head coaches in the state "This is your team".. Talked a bit about recruiting - and one should suspect Strong will do some picking out of the state of Florida. Schools make mistakes all the time - our school has made a boatload of them for what seems like forever. Alabama has had theirs, Nebraska, Michigan, USC. Texas now has a new head football coach for the 1st time in 16 years - one who admits to being nothing more than a "football" coach. Were their other options? Two were interviewed - Strong & Franklin. The better "football" coach got the job. There has been way toooo much talk about Texas and their football coach. After this the focus should be all about Butch Jones, winning football games and beating our rival Vanderbilt.. Talked earlier today with the SIL and his wife - whom for some reason decided to attend the press conference. Seems with the investments they've made to the university - as students, student athletes and now donors - they had some interest in what was going on in Austin. They, and their friends are happy with the choice. Even the Vandy grad - who doesn't think Franklin hung the moon as you do - believe times will be better for the Texas football team. Here are a few of the comments from his presser. Is Strong worried about those responsibilities? "I'll be able to handle it," he said. "I'm not worried about the responsibilities." "I was told I'm a football coach first," he had said earlier in the press conference. Asked about recruiting highly-touted prospects, Strong went into a discussion about how he's not worried about landing four-star prospects or five-star prospects, because recruiting rankings get bounced around by the services based on which schools offer and show interest, citing the case of Teddy Bridgewater dropping from a five-star prospect to a four-star prospect after committing to Louisville. Instead of concerning himself with rankings, Strong is worried about finding the right football players and developing them into tough athletes. Doing that will start out in Texas, as Strong promised that he and his staff will recruit with fire and passion, devoted to making Austin the state capital of football in the state of Texas. Cherry picking players from Florida will come second to closing down the borders of the state and making sure that Texas high school coaches and players know that Texas is their program. "I want the best players," Strong said. "Wherever they are, I want to go get 'em. But we have to control this state." Edited by humbletx, Jan 6 2014, 06:50 PM.

I'm with you Tux, Franklin would absolutely KILL it at Texas. Strong ... well, I still think he's overrated. Personally I'd rather have Franklin. |

Most UT fans are grateful Strong is NOT the coach and Jones is. We will find out if UTA fans are happy in a couple years. Jones record is far superior to Strong's, and Jones beat Strong 2 out of 3 times. When Jones left Cincinnati, his players gave him a standing ovation. Strong's players did not have too many nice things to say. This is very telling to me. |
