I Wonder if Charlie Strong prefers Miami job over Texas and is waiting for Al Golden to take Penn State?

Two interviewed - Strong and Franklin

Two contacted as to interest/interview - Briles & Mora

Briles would have taken the job *if* offered w/o going through the interview. Makes sense based on his current situation @ Baylor. *If* he had interviewed and didn't get the job - well that would have put him in a jam in Waco. Mora - has a great gig - 8 to 9 wins and he is gold plated.

Gruden - shops himself - several of the BCBC jumped on that one. Anyone that takes him as serious as he does himself is foolish. He's not going to walk away from ESPN to take a job in Cleveland, Nashville, Detroit, Jacksonville etc. He is smart enough not to work for Jerra in Dallas or the *ssclown in Washington. ESPN is a great gig - and he is good at what he does.

Saban - public record speaks for itself. Members of the BCBC approached Saban's agent - and it would have been a sweet deal. Timing - Brown had to go prior to 12.13 - both Brown and Powers didn't want Saban thus dragging things out. Saban wins either way, off the field.

Lots of winners in this hire - all around. Patterson got his guy in football - a nice deal 5 for 5 - CS gets 2.5 for coordinator hires.

Miami - a gold mine sitting there in south Florida. The problem - fans so few of them. The Canes will continue to get their share of south Florida players - yet Louisville has shown a coach can go down south and get some good ones.

CS steps into a good position - a 10 win type team in 2014. Issues at QB - 3 NFL quality RB's - solid OL - depth @ WR. Defense - after the SEC guy got whacked running the defense - and bringing in a guy off the street - they turned things around.

IMO - it was a difficult choice for CS - leaving UL. The direction he was heading with the Cardinals would have put him in the hunt for the 4 team play-offs year in and out.

John McClain says Strong is a great coach but is not a fit for Texas and suggests that thus could be a shirt relationship.

Excellent article, Tux. When I said the Mich St coach was a better fit, that was some of things I was talking about. Texas wants a guy they can drink beer with after the game. I just don't know if Strong is that guy.

We are also going to find out how much of UL's success was Strong and how much of it was Bridgewater. I really want to see who Strong hires on his staff. His coaches at UL were very young. Good for recruiting, bad for coordinating an off and def. Strong will handle the defense, I wonder who will be the OC?.

Al Golden is staying at Miami. This means either Munchak or Jimmy Franks has the Penn State job. Titans insiders believe Munchak has the PSU job because he walked away from an extension that doubled hus salary (but he was going to have to fire some coaches)

As one Penn State poster said....Munch wasn't interested in us until the Titans fired his ass.

h'mmmmmmm when did Pat Forde start writing for the General Toots?

here is what one of the local media - Travis county has to say..

"Strong is a good defensive football coach and an utterly unpolished country boy. Flawlessly conducted press conferences would be a thing of the past. I don't particularly mind as I don't have the emotional need for my head football coach to serve as my confidante, small town mayor, and British House of Commons wit, but it would be a fascinating redefinition of program culture. I think he's a good man and coach whose rough edges may not cut light well under a brighter spotlight. Can we deal with that? Can he?

Strong is perfectly cordial with the media, but he does view them with some suspicion and doesn't seem to enjoy the interactions much. He'd rather be watching film, recruiting, or hanging out with his players and family than glad-handing. Our monied types should probably focus on just enjoying the games instead of counting the head coach as their personal pen pal show piece. If you have a problem with that, you're probably someone who practices imaginary golf putts in hallways and can't wait to tell people who your Dad is.

No matter how much the national media erroneously tries to tell us that the personality of Mack Brown defines Texas, remember who our stadium is named after. Texas was built by hard men.

The bigger issue that the semi-introverted Strong will have to contend with is the shock of moving from the small to big time stage and how to deal with his loyalty to the men who were good enough at Louisville, but don't necessarily represent the best available options at a place with the resources of Texas. For a guy that values allegiance, it's going to be an early test."

If they hire Munch it will be by default because everyone else turned them down......And the Penn State fanbase will go ape-shit crazy. They DO NOT want Munch.

If they are smart they'll hire him.

But that is not a legit site for news.

Neil O'Donnel just said that he expects Mike Munchak to be named the Penn state head coach in the next couple of days.
