Most UT fans are grateful Strong is NOT the coach and Jones is. We will find out if UTA fans are happy in a couple years. Jones record is far superior to Strong's, and Jones beat Strong 2 out of 3 times. When Jones left Cincinnati, his players gave him a standing ovation. Strong's players did not have too many nice things to say. This is very telling to me.

The above manifesto from Texie Pooph aside, Butch Jones was a far superior choice for UT than was Charlie Strong. If you just take the public relations aspect only, Jones' people skills make Strong look like the Chief in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest! I also agree that if it was between Franklin and Strong, they should have taken Penis Head. IMHO Charlie Strong should have waited for the Florida job to open up. Also, without Bridgewater, Strong's record at Louisville would be much closer to .500 and he would not even have been a candidate for the Texas gig.

Penis Head is being linked to more jobs than Big Pappa Plump was the two years after he was let go at Tennessee. I think the next Titans corch will be Ken Whisenhunt.
The NFL believes Whisenhunt will be the next HC at Detroit. The Lions have a good QB, Megatron, and a good DL. The QB being the key.

The Titans are loaded on offense with nobody to run the show. He may not be sold on Locker who just can't stay healthy. But, with the Titans, the rest of the offense is there already.

Tennessean (via footballscoop.com) reporting that Franklin will be offered the PSU job:

How big is Vanderbilt's vault? I would assume that it is big enough to make Franklin the highest paid coach in the nation AND to have the largest assistant coach payroll AND to build a big huge stadium AND give away every ticket so that the seats are full.

"Vanderbilt AD David Williams has made it clear to us and to CBS Sports that he is prepared to empty the vault to keep James Franklin at Vanderbilt." -- Footballscoop.com

They could make every poster on here the highest paid coach in the nation. I believe it is over a billion.

Most UT fans are greatful D. Dooly is not the coach.

As to BJ - and coaching - he has one year in the SEC. Watching several of the games - gotta think about his superior coaching abilities. Lots of Tennessee alums who actually watched some of them wondered about several coaching decisions in several games.

How well Strong does as a HC in Texas won't be influenced one way or the other about his head to head match-ups vs Butch Jones when they were at their former schools. Both have been given opportunities to be successful.

C. Strong would have been one hell of a head coach for Tennessee - just based on what he accomplished at South Carolina and UF supported by your very own comment "he shoulda waited for the Florida job to open up". If Strong is capable of being the HC in Gainseville - he is more than capable to have been the HC in Knoxville.

"Public relations" v.s. a football coach... One of the best I've seen over the last 25 years in "public relations" is the guy outta Cookeville. Forgot what got him to that stage - winning football games. 3 - 8 win seasons and he gets turned out to pasture..

Bridgewater - a Florida recruit. What does that tell you? One can only imagine how good Charlie would have done recruiting Florida for Tennessee.

I'll also agree Franklin would have been a better fit as the head coach in Knoxville. Superior to the current coach, Butch Jones, on and off the

Jones coaching abilities are superior to Strong, and it should be obvious to the casual observer. Jones has been a head coach longer and has more conference championships than Strong. Most UT fans wanted Strong to go to Florida because we have little respect for his coaching abilities.

I will be surprised if he is the right "fit" for Texas. He is not a very good PR guy. I think he wilts under the pressure of having one of the premiere jobs in college football.

Jones faces an uphill battle at Tennessee given how bad the program has floundered for the past 10 years.

The Vandy coaches are now following the Penn State recruits. Jimmy Franks is headed to Happy Valley.

Breaking news out of Nashville is that the football fan-base has started a massive petition to show their support of Franklin. As of this morning, 685 Vandy Fans have signed the petition.

Yes, I know that Penn State puts 685 fans in the stadium men's room even on days that there isn't a football game, but for Vanderbilt this is a significant story.

Footballscoop:
Quote:

Penn State: San Francisco offensive coordinator Greg Roman will interview at Penn State, according to Jason La Canfora.

It is becoming clear that PSU has a lot of forces playing tug-of-war, just like O'Brien suggested.

By the way, here's the list of positions where Franklin has had an interview, but has ended up a bridesmaid:
  • NCAA: Texas
  • NCAA: Penn State
  • NFL: Washington
  • NFL: Cleveland
  • NFL: Tennessee
  • NFL: Houston

The NFL positions are likely Rooney Rule interviews, however.
