I hate it.....because I really like him....but I'm afraid Martin is about to head into a death spiral.....

I hope I'm wrong.....but we're clearly not ready to play UTEP and we can't wait until halfway through the year to get our heads out of our rumps....not this year.

No offense, just a slow hard to watch pitiful offense. Wasting the best talent we have had in years.

OK, after defeating Xavier by double digits, and avenging our first loss of the season, Coach Martin is 1-0 against the clock.

It's far too early in the season for "fire Martin" talk. He's playing a lot of kids a lot of minutes to try to figure out his rotation for the conference schedule. That's the way he does things, it's been the same every year. So occasionally we just don't mesh well in early season games and lose to a team we should beat. Like UTEP.

Our weakness is lack of a real true post player. And that's not gonna change this year, we have to scheme to minimize that issue. UTEP threw junk defenses at us, something we likely won't see again this year. Don't get too wound up with that loss, Tim Floyd is a great basketball coach, he's gonna be back in a big job in the near future.

I still think this is an NCAA tournament team. We shall see.

The real clock is the tournament and whether we get there. No tournament....no Martin. There's really no excuse for playing like we did against UTEP. They looked like crap the next game the played.

In order to get in the tourney, we can't show up at the door with losses like UTEP and expect to get in. I'd be willing to bet you that every coach that plays UT the rest of this year will look at film of UTEP (you watch the ones where there are losses to see what went right for the other team). I'd be shocked if we DON'T see a triangle and two again....although the times I use to run it were times when my team was really outmanned and I couldn't settle into a zone because the guards would shoot me to death.

I was NOT happy with the loss to UTEP. In fact I was pissed and disgusted. So pissed that I didn't bother to find out when we were playing Xavier, as I was sure we would lose to them again and didn't want to watch that happen.

So they surprised me with a dominating win.

I'm sure Martin will spend a little time working on how to attack a triangle and two defense. So it won't be so difficult if we see it again.

Most coaches won't run that defense, if the other team is ready, it's not hard to shred it to pieces. We weren't ready and it showed and that is on CCM. So we can certainly expect to see it again and we've got to be ready to defeat it.

Our bigger problem with UTEP was their size. They shot over us in the paint and we couldn't stop them. We can't physically lean on taller players to defend them with the new no touch rules. UTEP started a 7' center and two 6'10 forwards.

The only SEC team we play that will have that height will be Kentucky. But we better find a way to outrun and out shoot these tall teams, as we aren't gonna get any taller ourselves.
