Through 11 games, the Vols have 10 passing TDs on the season? Think about that………….10 TD passes for the season. We did that in two games in recent years. Much can be made of the talent we had at WR or our QB situation. Still only 10 TD passes thrown on the season. What does that say about the offensive scheme that Butch brought to the table? Sure our talent at WR is not up to what it was a year ago, but when has our WR talent ever been that good before? The talent that we have on the roster is not great, but our WRs are good enough to be in a position to get open or make plays to score 10 TDs without having to throw the ball all over the parking lot. You are not going to score a lot of passing TDs from throwing hitches, curls, digs, comebacks and a few go patterns. That is the nuts and bolts of Butch's passing game. That is why he wants to recruit smaller WRs who are quick and can spin out of tackles. It also part of the reason why our big WRs are not scoring on TD passes. Would anyone tell me that Justin Worley would not have thrown 10 TDs with our current WRs in a pro style scheme even if we were very run oriented out of it? Butch followed Brian Kelly at two coaching stops. Here is the scheme that Brian Kelly ran(which is from where Butch draws much of his scheme's origination) - The Difference Between Butch Jones and Brian Kelly: Part 1 Now, here is the contrasts between Kelly and Butch- the key term and the reality is that Butch's scheme is very rigid and not flexible or fluid - The Difference Between Butch Jones and Brian Kelly: Part 2 This final segment of the series deals with Butch's ideal WRs.
