Adoree' Jackson paid for his own trip from California to Knoxville for Foundation Day.

Read up on what he had to say about his trip to Knoxville.

That was actually crazy because when I first walked in they all started clapping and I was shocked and I was walked in and everybody was clapping and waiting for me and so I shook their hands and gave them some hugs," Jackson said Sunday after his visit. "It was just a great welcome. I've never seen that, ever. That does stick out to me a lot."

"It was exciting. It was very fun to be up here," Jackson said. "It was different from all my other visits I guess you could say. Just spending time with the coaches and players and just having fun and relaxing and seeing some current players that are here, it was just a good experience."

"It was unexpected for me. I thought we were just going to sit around like a junior day like everyone else does it," Jackson said. "So, it was just a fun time hanging out with everyone and laughing and making jokes and stuff like that."

"The coaches and the players and how they treated me when I got here," Jackson said of what stood out to him. "The staff people treated me really well and it felt like a home welcoming. You can see that fan support on my twitter and it came out to be true when I got here."

"I think it exceeded it. It's just great to be here," Jackson explained. "I think the hype was worth it."

Jackson said the coaching staff spent little time on football and lots of time getting to know him and he said he appreciated that.

"I got to know them and with it being their first year here they got to break down things with me scheme-wise and how they're going to use me and things like that," Jackson said. "We didn't really talk much about recruiting, we were just talking about starting a relationship just in case on signing day I do sign here I already have a relationship with everybody."

"For me they said whichever place I'd want to play first. If I want to do offense and part-time (defense) or if I want to do defense and part-time offense. Basically I think I'd do 'D' and part-time offense the more I see the schemes and stuff," Jackson said. "Being a corner, schools don't really have good corners that stand out. Everybody has a good receiver that sticks out and I want to be a dynamic player and use me on both sides of the ball to get me touches and that's what I like about it."
why I want to do special teams as well and if a school lets me do what I'm good at at Serra and doing it here, I like that."

Also important to Jackson are the track programs of the schools he's looking at and he was able to speak to Tennessee track coach J.J. Clark
"I just talked to the head coach bed to get out of here so I talked to him. It was very important and the long jump coach was wanting to talk to me as well," Jackson said.

Up next is a possible visit to Florida's Friday Night Lights this upcoming Friday but the trip isn't for certain.

"It was helpful and it probably was a great thing to do just to get a visit out because if I didn't I may have not got to visit because of recruiting," Jackson said. "Everything happened for a reason so it's a great thing."

In fairness, Jackson and his Dad came to UT after they had visited family in Belleville, Illinois. The entire trip was not just about coming to Tennessee.

Jackson was obviously impressed by his trip to UT. Will he come back for an official visit?

Jackson is considered to be one of the 1-2 cornerbacks in the entire 2014 class by national recruiting analysts. He told the coaches at UT that he would like to play both offense and defense in college.

Hearing rumors from a reportedly very legitimate source on GQ, that Jackson and his parents are returning to Knoxville this weekend. He was supposed to be on a visit to UCLA. If this is the case, this would be HUGE good news.

I wonder if his parents will return with him. If so, I'd be shocked if he wasn't going to commit. That would be his third visit to UT.

Tennessee's chances would be immensely improved if he makes that third visit on his own dime. But, at this point we are still behind teams like LSU, FSU, USC (Orgeron is really in his ear), and Oregon ... to put this in perspective, when other school recruiting analysts talk about candidate schools for Adoree Jackson, Tennessee isn't even mentioned.

Still, his high school coach says that the deciding factor is going to be the coaches: "He's a feel kid. He's taking it all in and wherever he feels he meshes the best, I think that's going to be the one that he chooses." And, I would assume the opportunity for immediate playing time is a huge attraction for him. Thus, Tennessee is a genuine dark horse, and the relational strength of Jones might just be the "it" factor for Jackson ... but will it be enough to do a reverse Beverly Hillbillies and pull him from the glitz of the west to the hills? The stereotype of California prospects in the recruiting process is that they flirt with leaving the state, or at least the Pac-12, and say all the right things about visits and far-away locations. But when it comes time to sign, they usually end up close to home.

Jackson lives in California, but comes from the St. Louis area, where most of his family still resides. Much has been made of this fact and the role that it will play in his decision. We will see if there is any truth to that.

I knew he had grown up in Illinois, but I didn't know when he moved to California. I just looked that up, and it was 2011. Still, that's 8-10 hours from Knoxville ... not exactly an easy drive.

Still, that's a big piece of info, because that really opens up the doors for him leaving California.

Of all the schools listed, UT is closer to St. Louis than OU, LSU, UF, or USCw/UCLA (duh). I believe Jones is his lead recruiter, thus I like our chances especially if he visits, as rumored, next weekend.

It is an 8-8.5 hour drive at 75 mph with a couple of rest stops.

As I've thought about it, what exactly does distance mean? It typically means two things:

(1) Can Mom and Dad attend the games. Granny Matilda and Aunt Martha may still live in Illinois, but they aren't coming to games. Mom and Dad live in California.

(2) Is it close enough that it is a medicine should homesickness kick in (which it does for many, many athletes). The answer for this is "no". That is too far away to cure a case of homesickness.

Thus, Tennessee has no more of an "close-to-home" advantage than LSU, Florida, FSU, Oklahoma or most other schools in contention.

But, for me, the only reason that the Illinois connection matters is

(3) It doesn't cement him to California and the west coast ...
