The local news in Memphis has lost the ability to get my attention because nearly everything is "breaking news" on Channel 3 or "only on 5" - Channel 5 along with the ratings (for percentage of viewers) for advertising purposes - the higher percentage of viewers generates more advertising dollars. It's not the quality of news that determines this, it's the station with the best money winning contest that, in my opinion attracts the viewer. One has to remember the base we are dealing with here in Memphis.

Some people refer to the Memphis news as a "scorecard". Draw your own conclusions on that one.
