IMO, the positions of importance are in order:

1) LB
2) CB
3) DL
4) RB
5) OL
6) Safety
7) WR
8) QB

They had a poll on KNS asking which position was most important this year in recruiting. The offensive line was dead last. Now how could people not think that's important when everyone we got, except Tiny, are seniors and Tiny may even leave after his junior year.
Excuse me, but new starting left guard and the strongest player on the team, Marcus Jackson, will be a junior. Sophomore Kyler Kerbyson is going to be a stud duck. Big and powerful Alan Posey is waiting his turn and Mack Crowder is one of those in state centers that will be a fine player. John Fisher and Scott Wells were not thought of highly when they came out of high school, both went on to be All-SEC players and Wells is still in the NFL. Fisher was a four year starter out of Milan High School.
Incoming freshman Austin Sanders is also going to be a terrific offensive lineman at UT. So please, I understand that they need to recruit for depth, but to say the situation is dire is simply not true.

Make or break time for the next 2 years-at least.

The 2014 class will probably be pretty good just based on 5-6 UT legacy's they will probably get. But they will be SO experienced players only in 2015 which is 3 seasons down the road.

So life may not be fair and the SEC certainly isn't fair BUT Jones really needs to get a Top 15 talent class to stay within shouting distance of Bammer, LSU, UGA, Texas A&M, and UF in the SEC who WILL get Top 5 or Top 10 talent. When you make 3 Million per year there is no excuses either- especially when you had 2 full months to reel these recruits in.

Most of these kids are playing the system and already know where they are going...CBJ might have 2 months...but the coaches from the schools most likely to get most of these recruits have been recruiting them for 2 years..not 6 weeks.

I hope CBJ can reel in 2-3 of these but I'll understand if he doesn't.

AV has already publically stated that he, AV, is giving CBJ 14 months and will not pass judgement until the 2014 signing class is secured. However, it certainly appears that he may now be hedging his bets and the temptation to harp is just too damned strong to resist. These guys are busting their rear ends trying to turn some of these recruits. As Phil said, it is very difficult to overcome two year relationships, but Jones and his staff are giving it the old college try. AV's blustering and wailing are to be expected. :worklikeheck:

I think you can put a "well, maybe" beside each name at the top. None have told us "hell no" but none are strong commitments either. I would gladly settle for three of them and be happy.

I'm more of the wait and see type. Jones IS behind the 8 ball on these recruits like Phil said, but if he can pull the right 3-4 players (Green and Lawson) he might make a huge run next season. He has to get the players next season, no excuses.

ginally Posted by :John Talty about Jason Carr. Talty's the Mississippi recruiting writer for The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss. Told me he talked with someone today that thought Carr was still solid on Tennessee. Also said he's intrigued by Alabama, but ultimately thought he ends up in Knoxville.Nothing earth shattering, just thought I'd pass it along.LikeQuote

Phil,

The Urb signed on with OSU in December last year. Kicked ass and got a Top 10 class in 6-7 weeks time.

Saban signed on with Bammer in January. Got a Top 10 class in 3 weeks time which is his worst class ever at Bammer but still better than any recent UT class.

Muschamp signed on with UF in late December as I recall. Got around a #12 class on short notice.

Sumlin signed on with Texas A&M last December and got the #15 class last year.

Mora signed on with UCLA last December or maybe even January. He got the #13 class last year.

I can go on and on and on with these examples of other HC's getting it done on short notice. But UT fans always make excuses for UT HC's not doing it. And for wagee, I am not going to rail on Jones if he doesn't get a Top 15 class in a few weeks after having 2 months to get it done. But I will promise you his job of winning over the next 3 years WILL dramatically lower if he doesn't reel in this kind of talent.

Teams in the SEC like Bammer, UGA, LSU, UF, and A&M are most certainly going to reel in Top 10 talent. We play 3 of those every single year. Got to stay within sight of them talent wise or no prayer of winning against them the next 3 years. Book it Dano. I have been 100% correct on this talent predictions for many many many seasons now and will be right about UT and Jones if he doesn't get it done recruiting NOW. You don't win in the SEC by outcoaching teams with more talent. All teams have coaching. Not all teams have talent.

The one thing in all the examples you provided was each college has a great recruiting base. Do you think that helped influenced the make up of the class?
