It did not make him come off as arrogant, he really is/was arrogant. I like Butch Jones to be honest, insofar as the stuff he needs to do outside of coaching I think he gets it. I'm not sure he gets what it takes to WIN in the SEC (I.E. the jury is definitely out on his recruiting and assistant coach hires)...but he's definitely got some Bruce Pearl in him, which is a good thing. |

Don't forget, his players loved him at Cincinnati. They clapped when it was announced that he was going to Tenn. It's a good sign. |

To be honest except for the W's an L's you never knew Dooley was around. From the last game until signing day I never knew if he was alive or dead. CBJ will not be that way...IMO he will keep UT's brand out there. He does the PR thing a lot like Pearl so far. Dooley was a cluster when it came to PR work. Edited by Tnphil, Dec 20 2012, 07:37 PM.

I sent a note to Butch Jones via twitter the other day that James Franklin has been calling into 104.5 the zone every week during the season whenever they were discussing UT and gave him the suggestion to call the Wake Up Crew (Mark Howard, Frank Wycheck, and Kevin Ingram) during their show. Guess what? He did call them and they stopped their what they were talking about to take his call. I also suggested that he call them like that once a week to get fans listening and to get them excited. I have a gut feeling that he will continue to do so. He's doing all the right things. |

Per 247sports Butch Jones is big on depth in numbers at the offensive positions. He likes to have 15 Offensive Linemen, 12 WR on the roster at any given time, and he was upset that UT was not even close to that. We are going to be signing some OLs and WRs in this class for sure. CBJ also noted in the 247 article that he likes big, tall WRs on the outside and pure speed on the inside at the slot. |

One signing can bump you quite a bit. Tennessee is currently ranked #44 on the Rivals board, which is only 570 points shy of the #10 slot. If BJ can sign Green (216) and North (191) - players we have led with, and are perhaps still in the lead - those two players alone bumps UT up from #44 to #21. And, if he landed just two high end 3-star players (totaling 180 points) and held onto everyone else on our commit list, Tennessee would comfortably be ranked #10. With just four players, Tennessee would jump from #44 to #10. And, in case you are counting, Dooley's staff was leading for Green, North, Koehler, and Toby Johnson ... those four alone would have put the Vols in a top 10 slot. So, it is not that far fetched to expect BJ to do the same. |

We only have 14 guys committed as of now and could lose another 2-3 guys. So we would recruit guys to take their places and then we will still have another 9-10 spots to fill, so it all adds up real quickly. |

I am hearing that BJ is a workhorse, as it pertains to his job. He works a lot of hours and is a perfectionist. |

Way to go, Tux! That was a good move on your part. And it's impressive that Coach Jones is in tune to listen and learn from knowledgeable fans with good ideas. What a change in the mentality of our head coach and staff. I think it's great. Now for the long term, if only the recruiting can supply the kind of talent needed to ultimately compete in the upper echelons of the SEC and nationally on an annual basis. I have high hopes that this staff will coach 'em up, stressing the system and teamwork at all levels. I'm not the first to state that I really believe Coach Jones "gets it". As time goes by, the more impressed I am. |

On a personal level, I listen to 104.5 all the time when I'm driving. I may not like every host and every show, but in my opinion it's the best available in the Nashville area, so that's the one I listen to.

Someone posted a sky is falling post on VQ. Hubbs responded:I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't concerned. First, I am not a star watcher or star believer. Recruiting is about filling needs. With our past hires, the new incoming coaches were able to save the recruiting classes and add some quality prospects to the the class with just a few coaches working and just 3-4 weeks to do it. I am not seeing that taking place with this new staff. We are losing some quality prospects and replacing them with lesser quality prospects at positions of need. It's better losing these "quality prospects" now rather than a year or two after they get here. Jones will get commitments from players who really want to be here. |

What gives you any indication that any of those former commitments would leave UT after 1-2 years? Why would they have any different plans than those who do sign with UT? |

OK ... here's my sanity post. The Pain. We are going to lose prospects as a result of the coaching change. That's just the way it is, simply because most recruits tend to commit to coaches and not to schools. At this point we've lost four that I believe "hurt": two were commitments in Bradley and Campbell, and I think we've also lost two of our heavy leans in RB Derrick Green and OG Reeve Koehler. With regard to Green, he's a candle in the wind with his recruiting and always loving the last place he went, so his "heavy lean" to UT could have meant we were just the flavor of the month. We'll have to wait on him to see where he ends up. More Pain, but not Jone's Fault. Several of the other leans that we had mid-season were lost as Tennessee's season spiraled out of control - that's what happened with Vonn Bell and Toby Johnson. So, those losses aren't really on Butch Jones. The Initial Commits. On a positive note, the two players that have committed to UT under Jones (Johnson and Jones), though not spectacular, are solid fills because our defensive backfield is in a world of hurt. We need higher end DBs, but just to survive next season we are going to need some warm bodies ... and who knows? They might actually turn out to be good. Moving Forward. Right now, there is a lot of chaos with recruits, and I only see one (1) high end recruit as a lean to Tennessee who is not already committed (WR Marques North). That is really depressing from where we were 2 months ago when there were six (6) high end recruits leaning to Tennessee. But, it is going to take some time for recruits to evaluate the staff, and I don't think we are going to be able to really judge effectiveness of Jones and his staff this year until about two weeks into January. At that point, I think we will have a more solid feel for the big board and know whether or not Butch's recruiting acumen is SEC-ready ... So ... lots of data gathering for the next two weeks ... let's see which recruits become leans ... and then we can better assess Butch and the staff. If Butch is even halfway decent, there is no reason why we shouldn't have a top 15 class. Edited by OrangeRev, Dec 27 2012, 09:46 AM.

so a Guy comes into a team that ranks 31st and you won't him to close to a top 10 in a little over a month? Are you expecting him to flip kids from the 30 ahead of us or close on the handful of 4 and 5 stars left? Consequently those same few remaining studs are also being chased by the boys. I thought you guys had standards over hear? Sounds the typical, I hate the hire , he better so do this or that or ..... No different than AV and his ilk. Some of you guys are so simple .
