Why should it be a top 10 class? Maybe it's our won-loss record that attracts recruits? Or the relationships that Dooley developed with HS coaches. Or maybe it's Smokey, the smartest administrator at Tennessee!
+1
The last time Tennessee was a significant player on the national stage these high school kids were just starting to learn their ABCs. The key to this class right now is just getting some of these guys to Knoxville on official visits. Demanding instant gratification is, perhaps, a little beyond what is feasible and possible this recruiting cycle. This staff will do everything humanly possible to salvage this class. Maybe CBJ should hire this guy as the WR coach!
BTW BJ, how does it feel to be using the same initials as the new head corch?

I am deeply concerned that we are losing commitments and then going after guys that Cincinnati was recruiting. Big East level players will not compete in the SEC.
And then there are examples of great players like Derek Wolfe (DT,36th choice overall--starter Denver), Issiah Pead (RB,50th over all to Rams), and John Hughes (DE, 87th overall, Browns)--all 3 went before any UT player in the 2012 draft.

I believe overall you are right, but we can cherry pick and get better as a team. Their defensive talent is better than ours--right now, imo. That is a sad state of affairs.

I think he would do better to hire one of those gals you have in prior posts.

Don't forget I am the original BJ on this board. And Smokey feeds me inside information to share with you. From what I hear from Smokey, the other BJ will make you forget me!

Because we hired him to win football games, and that starts with recruiting. The number ONE...by far...requirement of being a successful head coach @ UT is recruiting: the coaches have to be 'dynamic' recruiters. If BJ isnt a dynamic recruiter capable of doing so, he's not going to win @ UT.

keep in mind: I'm not judging BJ's recruting. I'm simply stating the requirements (and even then, I'm merely stating the obvious). Signing day is a good bit off, and right now I am assuming he will get it done.

Because to do his #1 goal (win games) he has got to do his #1 job (recruiting).

Dooley came in during a hurricane and pulled in a stellar top 10ish class with just a few days before National Signing Day, and that was despite losing a lot of the Kiffin recruits.

This is why it is so important for him to fill his staff with coaches that not only can coach, but can recruit.

BJ doesn't have Kiffin's recruiting before he got the job. He has Dooley who recruited the 28 best class so far this year. That's why it's unlikely to fill your dreams of a top ten class. He'll get there in time. But not now because of Dooley.

Blaming Dooley is not acceptable. What BJ is walking into is no where near the dumpster fire Dooley walked into....and he's getting paid alot more, too.

I dont give a shit about anything except results. You've got problems Butchie? Fine, it's your job to overcome them.

In listening to Doug Matthews, who no longer has any sources in Knoxville, says that the entire coaching metric has turned. In years past you got 4-5 years to turn a program around, but with the high coaching salaries and the lure of big BCS Bowl money, 3 years is the new norm. Coaches are nothing more than hired guns and there will be few coaches who will coach long term at most any school because of that.

It's tough to come in and expect a top notch class this year.
No, it's not. He's getting paid big-boy money, he is expected to recruit accordingly and from day 1. If he cant deliver the recruits that will win games we hired the wrong guy. If this class is not top 10, top 15...he's in trouble early.
Are you guys serious? Top 10 :roflmao: so a Guy comes into a team that ranks 31st and you won't him to close to a top 10 in a little over a month? Are you expecting him to flip kids from the 30 ahead of us or close on the handful of 4 and 5 stars left? Consequently those same few remaining studs are also being chased by the boys. I thought you guys had standards over hear? Sounds the typical, I hate the hire , he better so do this or that or ..... No different than AV and his ilk. Some of you guys are so simple .

Can anybody give me some tips about how to follow Coach Jones on twitter?

Up to now, I've avoided twitter on purpose. I never really had a desire get on it, until now.

I've decided to do my part to try to get Coach Jones to number one on twitter, as I just heard about the effort on 3HL, 104.5 in Nashville.

Is it possible to follow a twitter feed without registering? I'm guessing the answer is no.

I'm assuming I have to create an account? Is there a way to register as an observer, without having a twitter feed, or is that built into it?

How much personal info. is required to register? Is it possible, and is it legal, to register under an assumed name?

I'm also assuming a valid e-mail address is required?

Any tips, advice, comments, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

Along with that, I have the same questions about FaceBook, except I already registered a long time ago, and did some stuff on it at that time, so I'm familiar with the registration and navigation process. But I deactivated my FaceBook account soon after I joined when I heard about security problems early on.

If it's legal, I'd like to get on both with assumed names, but realizing I probably have to use a real e-mail address.

Thanks again in advance.

In hindsight, I believe that it was Dooley's lack of PR skills that ultimately did him in. When I say this, I mean that he did nothing from day one to build his visibility and hit it off with fans and recruits. This made him come off as arrogant and it ruined him.

Butch Jones, on theother hand, came to UT and has done everything right on the UT Public Relations trail.

BJ has brought in former players into the fold and has invited them to be involved. He understands the value of open communication channels and 21st century technology. He has huge twitter following base and has used his twitter account in one day than his predecessor did in 3 years at UT. The kids love this and the fans do too. BJ is also hitting the radio airwaves hard in the Knoxville, Nashville, Memphis, and Atlanta areas. Now,, we have a new website, RiseToTheTop.com .

His message is getting out. Now, he has to get some players on the line and reel them in.
