Looks like there is some hanky panky going on here. This one could get interesting!

As more time goes by and we see how things are unfolding at Tennessee and at USC, I have more and more doubts about Kiffin and what he would have done at UT if he had stayed.

I will give him credit for acid and white washing the UT football program. It is going to take time to clean up after Fulmer and some fans called it 5 years ago.

UT and USC are different programs. Tough to say whether success or failure would have been replicated at one or the other.

Here's what I'll say about Kiffin: he'd have been a hell of a lot better than Dooley could ever dream of being, but I'm starting to think I'd rather have Jones now.

Two things - two coaches mentioned. Kiffin and Org.

The Org and J. Blake have some similarities. None the less - one of the Fulmer haters forgets his slathering of the mighty Kiffin defense - IIRC referring to him as the greatest of the great defensive minds to every walk the earth - Monte. If anyone wants to view what a horrible, horrible DC Monte the great is/was - see the McClusterfuck Ole Miss laid on him.

Lane - for all his faults woulda recruited Tennessee - to a competitive 8, 9 10 game winner SECE team - w/o missing a beat. Now, would his recruiting classes have its fair share of thugs - not an exclusive FWIW - just look around the SEC. IMO if Kiffin had stayed, well there would be a lot more excitement - around the clock in Big Orange country.

Instead of that happening - Hambone signed up the worst coach in the history of the SEC - who drove the Vols not into the ditch, but off the cliff.

Jones - he'll take a few thumps this year - yet IMO we'll see a SEC team in Orange with a future.

Monte, meh. He's not as good of a college DC as he was/is pro...but damn. He's a hell of a lot better than Sunseri... Dooley would probably still be our HC if we'd had Monte last year (PS: thanks, Sal!)

According to many Monte was the second coming of the second coming. Getting *ss reamed -not only in Knoxville and in the SEC - but the lack of lubricant *ss reaming in the PAC 12 speaks volumes for his abilities to coach'em up. (As to the successes in Tampa - having up the middle - DL, LB, and DB, HOF quality players makes any coach look better than they really are - those 3 aged a bit - an what happened?)

Monte, while legendary, is/was a coattail rider. He learned some stuff from one hell of a HC in Tampa - road that all the way to a Super bowl winner - then showed his true abilities, jumping ship to the college level - getting ass reamed not only in Knoxville - but out in LA..

Monte called a few games while at UT, though. He had some issues w/ the spread 'em out teams for sure, but with the more traditional offenses he did pretty well all things considered. But yeah he certainly got his ass handed to him on a platter a couple of times for sure....and in the Pac 10 its even worse, because the offenses he is so bad against are pretty much all anyone out there does.

But, again...nowhere NEAR as bad as Sunseri. Worst coach ever. I'd trade 'em both plus Jancek and a draft pick to be named later to get Wilcox back.
