1180 AM in Knoxville does not believe that Tony Basilio fits in with their other programming, so they are sunning him off effective around July. Basillio has been buying his own air time for years, so the Knoxville station will be paying for whomever they fill his slot with. Could some folks at UT be behind a move to gag him? Will anyone even know he is gone? |

His drastic fluctuations and a few of his disturbed callers were not expanding his listener base and probably even ran some off. He was the poor man's HiYams, but frankly, I'd rather see Tony stay and HiYams run off back to Red Stick! Is that the station that the Ainge show is on? His show seems to be really taking off. I wonder if they will replace Bass Silly O with a local host or a national feed? I figure he will land somewhere else. Add: Personally, I thought the guy was pretty entertaining and I really liked the way he did the commercial for the Chinese Restaurant!

Tony makes the bulk of his income doing infomercials back east and he makes a very good living doing that. His sports talk gig is his love. Tony's big sticking points to me are that he wants to out-scoop the rest of the Knoxville media and rarely waits to verify his sources. The second sticking point for me is that he iswoshy washy. One day he is beund someone and when they have a p bad week, he is calling for him to be fired, released, benched, whatever. He is a fan for sure. I will not take that away from him. In Knoxville, everyone thinks that they should have a radio talk show....and they all suck. |

If Dave Hooker is replacing him as I have heard, that is a big mistake. |

Who cares what the red headed tuba player, who never played football, says about football? 1180 is pulling the plug because Small Mike criticized Erik Ainge on the 3HL in Nashville and on Basilio's show. Tony would not ban Small Mike, so 1180 pulled the plug because Erik Ainge had could not handle getting his feelings hurt. Basilio will find a place in the Knoxville radio slums. Everyone there seems to have his own radio show. |

You have to wonder if some people inside the UTAD approached Jay Bailey about Tony B. being bad for UT sports and offered some better ideas and guaranteed access to the coaches enjoyed by other Knoxville media members. |

I think you are giving the UT administration too much credit Tux. |
