The RB position has been a staple at Tennessee for years. Tennessee has seemingly always been known for it's running game. However, Kiffin failed to recruit one RB and Dooley landed the only backs on the 2013 roster. We have coming into the season, 3 RBs on the roster....Rajion Neal, Marlin Lane, and Alden Hill. Each has SEC abilities, but will any of them reach their potential? Neal has serious speed, but plays as if he is allergic to contact and has had some fumble issues in the past. Marlin Lane has good lateral moves, but lacks a 3rd and a 4th gear. Still those two are the guys who will tote the rock for us this season. Alden Hill had a good spring, after missing the past year due to illness. Hill has some good power and moves the pile. I expect to see him in the short yardage situations. It looks doubtful for Jabo Lee to be in campus this fall. The future, however looks bright for the Vols at RB. We already have the commitments of the best player in the state of Tennessee, Jalen Hurd and Treyvon Pauk, from Alpharetta, GA. http://www.nooga.com/161774/tennessee-recruiting-outlook-running-back/ |

Kiffin recruited the number 1 recruit in the country, who was also a RB. That same RB started a few games in the NFL last season, and showed promise. We lost that RB because our next HC, in his infinite wisdom, decided he dint want that same RB's first round draft pick brother to play LB for us...even though we desperately needed LBs. He also signed a top 5 all purpose back in his one recruiting class. But even if BB had stayed all 4 years of eligibility, he'd have graduated after last season (along with Oku) No, the lack of RB's is not Kiffin's fault. This one's all on Dooley. |
