Cornerback Daniel Gray transferring

No details given but Gray was competing for a starting job at cornerback and may be the fastest player at that position on the team. I'm guessing academics are involved.

I saw someone on another board say he had a close friend die recently or something...so who knows.

It isn't official or final yet to the best of my knowledge (which probably means that Jones is working with him). And, yeah I heard that a friend died, but Knoxville doesn't seem to be a compatible environment for most South Florida kids.

I also seem to recall that now that you guys have mentioned it. Don't believe it was that recent as now I seem to remember that he almost transferred after the fall semester was over.

South Fl to Knoxvegas is a bit of a culture shock, for sure. I remember the initial shock of going of to school as a Freshman (though it completely wore off considering I ended up transferring to 5 different colleges in 3 different states..."shock" quickly became "vacation" for me), and I never had to deal with a change in culture, mostly just weather.

I can see where a kid burried on the depth chart and w/o significant resources (meaning: money to pay for stuff) would get homesick REALLY fast. Throw a death of a friend on top of it and it would have to suck. Hope he sticks it out because I think he will end up being pretty good as a junior, but I can certainly understand if he goes home.

Hubbs reporting that walk ons had moved ahead of both Gray and Oliver on depth chart. He and lwsvol had some thangs to say about the talent level at CB. Jones, Coleman and then Fr after that.

I will count on others to talk about the FR coming in since I have no idea if they can help us or not.

Foreman and Sutton are the two that perhaps the staff has some high hopes for in August.

Few corners can come in and be competitive in the SEC in their first year. From what I've heard about Foreman, he may have a better odds to be on the field than Sutton. As a JUCO, Jones may be more ready.

I was hoping Gray would step up this year, but it doesn't look like the boy's heart was in it. It's gonna be a long year ...

While Hubbs says that Oliver is not in the mix, he was running 1st team when Jones was out injured.

That may be out of respect for him as a Senior ... I've never, ever heard of Oliver being good at anything, and that of course includes shoplifting.

BS is the call, unless, of course, he has decided to convert to the Mormon religion!

We've heard (a) homesick, (b) mourning the loss of a friend, and (c) buried on the depth chart behind walk-ons.

Looks like (c) is the winner.

Whenever there is a coaching change, you can expect players to become disenchanted and want trove somewhere else. I'm surprised that there haven't been more.

I'm sure many tried, but nobody other than Tusculum College wanted them.
