Super Conferences Coming Your Way

It will not be conference realignment as much as it will be a clear break away from the the little brothers of college football. The major conferences could break away from the NCAA and start things up on their own and not allowing their little brothers to share in the booty from the treasure troves that await such a move.

Now an even bigger change, talked about for years, could be afoot.

Will the NCAA as we know it be blown up? Will the bigger conferences break away and form their own union, so they can play by their own rules, compensate their players and not have to worry about being out-voted by the smaller schools?

The BCS conference schools in one organization. Everyone else in another one. It could happen.

Cynical Idealist

It's been coming for a long time now. Coaches hate it but U Presidents love it. Four conferences with 16 teams each they all can only play each other, no more chump games, maybe a few as teams get used to being in a Super Conference.

Unless the currently undersized Big 12 folds, there will be five ... from my perspective, the Big 12 has always seemed like the least stable of the five major conferences.

I've yet to see, hear, or read any major university leader say anything about a super conference - positive or negative.

Nevermind where Notre Dame stands on this particular issue.

They don't have to "say" anything ... by building conferences into superconferences, it is obvious they are in favor of $uch thing$.

Coaches, on the other hand, don't seem to like them.

It's Here!!!!

The SuperConference, that is…..

it comes down to keeping the bulk of the money that they earn in bowls and championships. The athletes at these schools will be paid a stipend and other smaller schools will not be able to keep pace without digging into the pockets of the bigger schools.

NCAA poised to create separate division for SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12, Big 12

I endorse this idea.
It is going to be the best thing towards a bigger and better playoff.

Notre Dame had better find a full-time conference. Times ... they are a-changing.

ACC?
Yeah. Their past excellence is no longer ... their independence is a dinosaur. The ACC is their best option given that they are knee deep in the conference.

Update - ND just signed the richest shoe contract in the game - UA - with zero advertising in the stadium.

The advantages of ND's association with the ACC are two fold - high profile games and recruiting in the south east. Do the Domers need to be a conference member to be in the conversation - no they don't.

When the 8 team play-off kicks off - the 5 get their snoots in the trough - leaving 3 slots open.. ND gets its own - then the conferences have to dole out the dollars.

When talking about seats and the table - ND owns the table..
