The Masters has a dee[ tradition of being purist. If they make a ruling just to appease CBS or anyone else, they will take a major hit from the golfing world. I'm sure that the Masters does not want to be tainted.

You know that Jim Nantz is on his knees begging them not to DQ Tiger.

I don't know anything about the rules of tournament golf, but that looked strange to me. Knock it in the water, then drop it near the hole, that don't sound Kosher.

In most tournaments, they have a drop zone for players that hit into the water. The players have the option of also hitting from their original location, or drop on a line from where the ball when into the hazard to the original spot. Tiger went further back from his original location. Whether he was told the rule wrong by the official or not, he is still responsible for knowing the rules, or he can ask a fellow player for a ruling.

The bottom line is that Tiger knew that he was cheating by taking an more advantageous lie and then to sign the scorecard.
