Cynical Idealist

We have two SEC average RBs, Neal and Lane. If we lose Lane, we are down to putting newbies and walk-ons in the game to give Neal a blow, We will have a poor passing game AND a poor running game, 4-8 record at best.

You don't think that there is any way that we'll beat these five: Austin Peay, WKU, South Bammer, Vandy and UK?

I would say that we are more likely than not to win those five games.

How much you want to wager on that prediction Galla? To conclude that the passing game will be bad here on Apr. 17th is the epitomy of pessimistic thought.

Burning Man, 2009 FOREVER

If Lane is gone, my guess is Pig moves to RB full time. Alden Hill...well, he may end up being about like a Jabari Davis. Not terrible, but not a difference maker and really more suited to situational play/short yardage than a full time guy.

Neal is actually pretty good, I just dont expect him to stay healthy if he has to carry more than 15, maybe 20 or so times per game. Need another guy back there, preferably someone who can be a difference maker....and I just dont see anyone else on the roster that may fit that bill. Actually Justin King may be that guy, too...

Agree on Hill right now. that could be his ceiling, Jabari Davis type. Hell far, if push comes to shove, I'd have Allison Mauer put Channing fugate on a crash diet, get him down to about 225 and move his to running back. Do we have any idea if Jabo Lee is going to qualify or not?

Junior tailback Marlin Lane’s return from a disciplinary suspension appears imminent. Head coach Butch Jones said this week that “Grade-wise, he’s done what he needs to do. He’s on break. When he comes back to Knoxville for summer classes I’m going to sit down and we’re going to talk. As of today, he has done the things to probably be reinstated.”

Speaking of academics, the head man’s emphasis in that area already is producing results. A total of 46 players posted a 3.0 grade-point average or better last semester, and the team GPA was a solid 2.82. “Academics are first and foremost,” Jones said, “and that’s a bi-product of winning.”

Jones also is pleased with the dedication his players are showing in terms of improving their football abilities. Most are staying on campus this spring/summer to spend extra hours honing their gridiron skills.“We’re in a mini-term right now, and more than half of our team didn’t even go home for any break,” Jones said. “They elected to stay in Knoxville and work out. That tells me a lot.”
