Boom. House of Payne is painted orange! The fears of some about Jones and Company recruiting should start to ease now. This is a DC product and that was supposed to be Buddy Hackett's primary stength area as a recruiter.

The DC area is supposed to be Jimmy Franks recruiting backyard. Payne visited Vandy yesterday and said that Jimmy Frank's pitch was not good enough to change his mind about the Vols.

We need to establish relationships with HS coaches in the DC area and the Tidewater. They both produce great players every year.

I'm certainly feeling better about it.

I'll say it again: If Jones & Co. can recruit, UT will do well. They can coach.

So far, Jones is doing a great job getting some great players at needed positions. I hope he can get some LBs and linemen.

The line and LB's will be coming. Jones is adding a spirit to Tenn football that has never been seen before. We have seen winning but never as much enthusiasm from a head coach ever. Once we start winning, the media will love him and that will add more interest in Tenn across the country.

We have about 20 DBs offered and four committed. I think we need to concentrate now on DTs, DEs LBs and O-Linemen.

Another quick note from Chicago

After a player had an emergency and couldn't make it Tennessee commit D'Andre Payne will be participating this weekend. He's on his way to Chicago now.

Payne, in case you hadn't heard, was declared ineligible up here by the D.C. schools because of residency issues. That now appears to be corrected - I think daddy moved to the District - and he played on Friday night.

D'Andre came in as an early enrollee weighing 167. After a month on campus in the weight program and eating 3 balanced meals each day, he has put on 14 pounds of muscle.
