I was at the Humboldt field house this afternoon watching the kids lift weights...Junior Reid who played at UT for Majors in the 70's is now the head coach at Humboldt. I've known Junior for 40 years. While I was there Coach Reid got 3 texts from the UT staff. Junior said he had talked with CBJ several times...and he can't remember the last time a coach from UT had shown this much interest. Humboldt has a kid... Nick McLilly who is a rising senior and has a offer already from Chrome Dome and Vandy. UT is showing interest along with a couple more kids that will be juniors. |

Milan--Ernest Fields, John Fisher, George Kidd, Larry Joe Smith, and that tight end that caught that pass in the end zone against Miami in the Sugar Bowl and did that very formal bow? Do you remember his name??? Humboldt Toby Champion, Kacy Rodgers,Junior Reid, but do you remember the All American offensive guard from Humboldt? What was his name? Boys we have gone over 24 hours without mentioning Humboldt's greatest gift to Tennessee. An anchor on the 1951 national champions, a college and pro Hall of Famer, retired No. 91 at UT, the great Doug Atkins! |

Saw that video a few months ago. We use to have a Saturday coffee drinking bunch back in the 80's and 90's at the Humboldt cafe. Doug would come when he was in town visiting (he has several family members that live in Humboldt)...Doug would have to duck when he came through the door. A coffee cup in his hand looked like he was holding a thimble. His biceps was like tree trunks. I talked to his nephew back around Thanksgiving...he said Doug wasn't doing real good. |
