The Strip will undergo an overhaul that will completely change it.

Until we get things turned around in football those places will have a tough time surviving anyway. So this is a good time to start a 4 year project since that maybe how long it takes to get team turned around to where they can compete in the league. I love that area and hope it can get turned around. It's sad how that strip has lost so much glamor over the years. I still enjoy going though. Except I usually hang out behind the strip at a place called Cool Beans. The only place I usually go to on the strip is the Mellow Mushroom, Roaming Gnome, and when it was there I liked going to Bar Knoxville believe it or not. I guess most of the bar hoppers go to places like The Tin Roof, Rays ESG,Market Square,Old City, and I don't know about new places that I don't know about. I remember the last time I came to town, one of the first places I went to was Rookies and it was closed down, so I have no idea what the night life is currently like in Knoxville but I hear more about The Tin Roof and ESG more than any other place.

I tell you a town that has come up with a good night life and that's Maryville. The cops aren't near as bad as what they used to be and they have some cool places for a town like that. Perhaps while the construction is going on we should recommend out of town guests stay there?

There is way too much traffic in that area to go down to two lanes. It may have been that way forty years ago, but times have changed.

There has never been enough parking on the strip to handle the business that they believe that they will create. Students will not be spending enough to keep many businesses afloat. Eliminate car traffic and that business could drop even further.

Just my opinion.

I'm all for this ... even though I'm in Knoxville at most once a year. I've seen this kind of design put in other places, and it really creates a nice outdoor gathering place, which ultimately helps business.

As for traffic, other roads can handle the through traffic, particularly Neyland Drive.

You're dealing with a major east-west thorofare. If traffic is constricted you'll see a drop off in business in Western Plaza, etc. A lot of people (read old dudes like us) like to take Cumberland just to look at the Co-eds!

This will a Bob kesling interview with a business owner on the strip.. ::bob:: << We're here with Charlie, the owner of Mellow Mushrom, Charlie, it's easier to get business when people can drive through, check it out, then have a place to park if they do want to stay, isn't it?
