Looks like some of the boys at Volquest don't agree with not calling Quinn, Brown, Branisel and Foreman SEC material. Branisel is Hubbs sleeper pick and one of the guys also gushed about Foreman and his speed and quickness, which by the way is on display in the playoff game vid I put up here. And then this: Excerpt from Rivals (Volquest): Austin Price I really like Jabo Lee and Malik Brown. Lee is dynamic with the ball in his hands and Brown had 16 sacks in a tough league in Florida. Paul Fortenberry I'm a huge Woody Quinn fan. The guys is a legit 6-foot-6, 260-pounds and a great athlete for his size and the thing that impressed me the most when watching his film was he's not afraid to hit and he always finished his blocks. Losing Mychal Rivera and Butch Jones liking to use his tight ends in a variety of ways, I think the athletic Quinn has a good shot of making an impact early during his career. I also like the fact that since he hasn't played a lot of football, he doesn't have a lot of mistakes to correct, the coaches really just get to mold him how they see fit. |

Yeah, I read that. I absolutely love Foreman (and in ways that probably make my wife uncomfortable) ... but the thing about Quinn that disturbs me is (a) TE is a difficult position to learn, (b) he has one year of football experience in 9th grade and another in JUCO under his pads, (c) the SEC is the toughest conference in college, (d) he is in JUCO, which typically means he struggles with grades (Tennessee will now make this his fourth college after Pepperdine, Cal Baptist, and Santa Ana), and (e) he only has 2 years left to play. In looking at his film, I see an agile and fast player who can make catches and block. He seemed really easy to tackle, however. Regardless, he may have all the raw skills in the world, but to go from the experience of a HS Sophomore to a productive SEC starter in under 2 years, while at the same time having to maintain academic standards that have likely been a struggle? Well, it just seems like a long shot. (My SEC anointings were based on whether or not several SEC or other major programs were genuinely interested in the player, or if he was some other significant credential like being an All American ... not my personal expectations of a player ... I think Weisman and Foreman are SEC-level talents, and Branisel also has some good film). Edited by OrangeRev, Feb 8 2013, 07:34 PM.

After watching Branisel on film, I am impressed with his speed and stride. Very smooth. He needs another 15-20 pounds and he could be a hoss.

I think that's what coaches Jones and Elder really like about Branisel. He has the speed to run the hash marks and get to medium range in a hurry. He does need to add some weight and he will. He actually looks kinda skinny at 225. I liked Quinn before the guys talked about him yesterday. He has an urgency about him. He has two years to play two. He wants to get an NFL contract. He is basically the same size as Gronk. We shall see how fast he can indoctrinate himself into big time football.
