I think we should keep in mind that Jon Gruden has no college head coaching experience. He has never recruited kids to come to a certain college and that his overall head coaching record is 100-85, far from Fulmer's numbers. I am not shouting Gruden down, I'm just pointing out facts.
You are really foolish to equate coaching records of the NFL versus college. The NFL does not have nearly the number of cupcake games as college. Your point is completely and utterly moronic.
No way you can compare NFL records to college....Hell NFL teams hire 500 head coaches all the time. Jeff Fisher had offers from the day he left the Titans to coach and he was pretty much a 500 or a little above coach.

Not really. I'm just tired of people saying NFL coaches are lousy when their winning percentages aren't over a certain amount. Veteran NFL coaches are the best in the business. I'm not a huge fan of NFL coaches coming into college because college is more diverse. College teams aren't loaded with NFL talent, but run many different styles of offense. That is why Monte Kiffin is struggling with the college game. I have no doubt Gruden can coach circles around 95% of college coaches. The question is can he hire a staff of recruiters!!!

I don't want Gruden ...

But, if I were in charge ....

(1) I wouldn't do anything before the end of the season.
(2) On the Monday after the Kentucky game, I announce that Sunseri is dismissed - poor recruiter and poor coordinator.
(3) Derek Dooley is given a one year extension on his contract. Graham, Hinshaw, Palermo, McKeefery, and Pittman are also given extensions and/or raises.
(4) Charlie Coiner (TE/ST) will not be retained IF Rich Bisaccia (TE/ST) can be hired.
(5) Hire a DC ... any DC ... but someone who IS a DC ...

Cupcakes?

H'mmmm the Titans, Cowboys, Panthers, New Orleans, Eagles, Bills, Jets, Chiefs, Bengals, Browns, TB, Jacksonville, just to name a few..

Most NFL coaches don't build programs - they win with mature players. When they get older - the team crashes and burns - as Tampa Bay did under the coaching of said J. Gruden.

Look around the college game - for guys who make their name in the pros - get their asses handed to'em then head on back to the NFL..

Mike Sherman is a recent example - a great record as the HC in Green Bay - basically a .500 coach at the college level - gets fired and now IIRC is in Miami.

If you could make the call now, what would you do?

1. Fire Dooley now but let him coach for the rest of the year

2. Fire Sal now and keep Dooley for one more season

3. Fire Dooley and most of his staff at the end of the season

4. Support Dooley and his entire staff, giving him another year
#1 or #3

I prefer #1 since we can get a head start on a new HC to be in place by 12/1/12. But anything I can get that rids us of the Precious, I can live with.

If I were Dooley and was coming back to UT, I would fire Sunseri and I would hire someone who has or is working directly under Dom Capers as my new DC. For those who do not know, Capers, a former UT assistant coach under Majors, is the guru of the 3-4 defense.

Would this be the same Dave Campo who is now working with Charlie Weiss?

Sorry Tux - all these NFL types begin to sound alike - Capers? Forgot that nightmare when he was here in Houston...
