A Very Manly Man

This is very similar to Mike Shula. Son of a famous coach who never could seem to quite put it all together. Shula survived four seasons but it's because he managed a ten win season in year three. Year four was 6-6. The next hire was Saban and they haven't looked back. Can we actually be in a similar situation with the right hire? The other thing that I wonder about is if the can Dooley and don't come to terms with Gruden.....Are they willing to pony up the same $$$$ for another big name? The last thing I wonder about is if Gruden is really going to succeed. Saban had a ton of college experience before doing the NFL....Gruden doesn't. |

Gruden could succeed next year. He can coach when he has some players, and next year (at least) he would have them. Where Saban wins is where I'd be concerned with Gruden: recruiting. That and keeping his players unsuspended when they are juicing the shit out of them, of course. |

That's an interesting point, can Gruden, if hired, recruit? I would hope he would get college assistants, like Jay Graham and possibly Tee Martin, to help with recruiting. Hiring a staff full of ex-NFL coaches, isn't necessarily going to win at the college level. |

Would Gruden be willing to keep some current assistants? That would be the question. He has an awful lot of ties to coaches. |

I have no doubt he'd keep Jay Graham and I bet he'd try to get Tee Martin. I'm sure he would want as much as the TN family involved as possible. I have no doubt. I think he'd probably keep the OL coach too if it was OK with his coordinator. |
