Too much Dooley talk--hard to keep him now

I agree Tux. He would need a lie detector at every press conference.

As a UT graduate, I am more concerned with the poor imagine he would give Tenn. There are other coaches who can win at Tenn. Petrino isn't the only one out there! Don't forget, Fl went with an assistant coach and look where they are today.
There are several good coaches out there without the baggage Petrino has. I'd rather keep Dooley and accept losing than have Petrino waltzing the sidelines at Neyland.

You're probably right about Petrino being 6--1 now. The NCAA would also be on campus. It's not worth the price of winning to bring in Petrino, have sanctions. and watch him leave.
Patrino has never been in a sniff of trouble with NCAA. He might be my second choice. At least we can win for 3 or 4 years. All the other candidates are a crap shot.

The NCAA was sniffing around Louisville, but they didn't get him. He is never around long enough to get caught. I am with Runner on this one--I rather have Dooley than Patrino.

He was there four years....that's plenty of time to get caught. After looking at his coaching record, my biggest concern would be that he doesn't tend to stay in one place very long.....he's bounced all over.

Is there anyone on here that's in love with Petrino? I just don't think he is what Tenn needs.

I'm not in love with him at all. I'm just sayin, he'd actually win football games. His problems/baggage are off the field.

It will be hard to keep Dooley now that the media and fans are discussing his status so much. Even if he runs the table, the enthusiasm will not be there for 2013. Plus recruits must be skeptical of putting their futures in Knoxville. Forget the talk of Gruden. He's not coming. My fear is Tenn is so desperate that they would hire Petrino.
Dooley is TOAST due to his Contract. Hear me out here:

1) The buyout only goes down 1 Million bucks at the end of 2013 year compared to after 2012 season. That wasn't smart by Sexton to do in retrospect as you don't save much $$$ in the big picture of things by firing him now vs later.

2) I still maintain that recruiting is stuck in Mud big time and it will only get worse- UNLESS Dool's is given an Extension on his current contract. Rival coaches like Petrino were already using Dooley's status last year against us. Just think what it is going to be after this horrid season on the field for the 2013 class and then next summer for the 2014 class IF he still has the same contract with the same expiration date. College ball is different as far as contracts to the NFL. In the NFL you play out your contract and negotiate a new one. In college FB you never ever get near the end of your contract or it is used against you in Recruiting. Fulmer had Mike Hamilton by the short hairs after 2007 and Hamilton was forced to sign an extension or Recruiting was going to suffer.

Summary: No Contract Extension and Dool's is a Dead Man Walking in Recruiting. Fire him now vs at end of 2013 season and all you save is 1 Million bucks. Dool's is history unless he somehow finds a way to go 5-0 but he then gets a Contract Extension also- just like Fulmer did with his new contract after the 2007 season- which cost us 6 Million but Mike Hamilton's hands were tied coming off the 2007 season.

In love with Petrino? I'm not in love with any football coaches. I've already listed why he would be an attractive replacement for Dooley...no need to do it again.

I'm not in love with any football coach.

Outside of Fulmer and the members of his regime, I would support almost any coach that came to UT and that included Dooley.

What is your take on Petrino. At Arkansas, he did a lot of negative recruiting. He has screwed everyone who has hired him. Do you think he is the answer?

It would depend on whether he was hired by UT or not. :roflmao:

Who are the defensive players that would make Petrino 6-1 at this point in the season. Hell Dooley would be 6-1 if he had the defense. I'm not talking Petrino down, I'm just saying there is no way he could be 6-1 with the current level of defensive talent on the roster.

The same ones we have, except with someone else coaching them. Sunseri is terrible.

Living in Atlanta for 21 years it would be very hard for me to like this absolute scuzball. His history is that he eventually screws every single team he coaches. Pure 100% mercenary. Plus I looked at his recruiting to Arky and it was never very good. He usually did get the occasional 5* player from Arky and he can coach QB's as good as any around. But he leaves a trail of slime.
