Kiffin understands the recruiting game, how to play within the gray areas of recruiting, how to utilize a offensive system, teach kids to play wihtin that system, and is a decent game day coach.

Where Kiffin gets into trouble is his ego and his penchant for telling partial truths. Those will always take him down a notch. If you look at the top coaches over time, most were upfront and honest.

Tree hug'n, bleed'n heart, lazy luv'n, global warm'n token liberal

I'm watching this, and saying to myself ... "What the????"

So, I did some digging.

Turns out that Kiffin has had this policy in place with the LA Media that they cannot report on injuries. Then last week, an LA Daily reporter did just that - he reported on the injury status of a player. In retaliation, Lane Kiffin took away the reporter's access to the team and his media credentials for the upcoming games. Pat Haden (or someone above Kiffin) then overturned Kiffin's decision after the press went into an uproar.

So, then we have this press conference, and the first question out of a reporter's mouth (the muted segment) is a question about an injured player being available for the next game.

Off storms boy wonder ...

I think his play calling gets scared in final minutes of close games is another weakness. Low character will always bite you at times as well.
