Getting To Know The Akron Zips

Akron is 1-2 on the season. They have lost to Central Florida and Florida International. They have beaten Morgan State.

The Zips will live up to their school name and bring an aerial attack that averages over 50 passes a game. They also come into the game giving up a ton of points.

The Zips do not run the ball well at all. This will be a game where our young DBs can learn a lot in the art of pass defense. Not a bad thing at all.

On the defensive side, opposing teams have run the ball with success against them, but have not thrown the ball a lot. This will be an opportunity to grind the ball on them and work on some run blocking and even some play action.(phil will have a wet dream).

We will see how the Vols come out of the gate after the Florida game. Will twe answer the bell or will we come out flat?

I believe a slaughter is about to take place, You are right though we should line up and run the ball 60 times....

No excuse not to play Bonner and McNeil for a least all of the second half. We already know what Teague and Brewer can do.

Shakes, you are right on the money. Bonner and McNeil will not have a better coming out party than against an Akron team that will challenge their understanding of coverage schemes. This will be a great test for them heading into SEC battle.

I was at a UT vs Akron game in 1989. Carl Pickens made his debut as a DB and had a pick 6 early in the game. Classic moment. Did you all know it was Fulmers idea to move Pickens to DB?

seconded thirded

edit: in Brewer's defense, though...the kid can at least hit like a truck if he gets there. Still think he should be a LB

Brewer is bipolar. Sometimes he makes spectacular NFL plays, and sometimes he looks like Curly of the three stooges.

I didn't know that Buster Brown was coaching again. Never forget "Stand up Terry! I AM standing!" when he was @ Auburn.
