Longshot, but still possible

After thinking it over for 48 hours, I have come to the conclusion that this team still has a chance to go 9-3. I think they lose at Georgia and to Bama. I no longer fear Miss. St. as a trap game. Vols will be coming off their open date when they have had two weeks to continue to shore up communications and alignments on defense. State's win over AllBarn has lost some of its luster because Allbarn sucks donkey gonads.
Tennessee will visit South Carolina after the Gamecocks have played eight consecutive weeks. The three games prior to the UT game are going to require maximum effort from SC and mental and emotional highs. They are, in order, Georgia at home, at LSU and at Florida. Catching Spurrier after he has put all his marbles in the circle to beat his old team is a blessing for Tennessee. I think the Vols whip SC on the road.
This team should be in great shape to go no worse than 8-4. They had a good practice today, seemed to bounce back from the loss to the Gators, a team that I believe may very well win the EAST this season.
Anyway, have tried to be realistic here, and that's the way I feel at this point in time. Tennessee can still get better, play better and reduce mistakes as the season moves forward. Guys like Lathers, Bartholomew and AJ Johnson aren't going to let them quit. Don't give up the ship! :coolaid:

I agree Lonzo. I think we have the makings of a good team just need corrective some administrative type things. Getting plays in, players knowing play, not jumping off sides, not lining up wrong etc. I'm not holding the team accountable for beating Ga like too many did Florida. I am holding them accountable to fight their guts out for 60 minutes regardless of the score, like Tennessee football has in the past. I also want them to respond to adversity and if our QB folds like a tent the next time things go wrong he needs to be yanked for Worley. I'm very anxious to watch that Ga game. Not because I expect to win but I want to see how Worley and the rest of the team respond in the next big SEC game.

Most likely an 8--4 season. We lose to Ga & Ala and get upset somewhere. I think we beat South Carolina but Missouri will be tough. Miss State at home could be tough. But if we beat Ga, then a ten season could happen.

Georgia's defense is as good as Florida's. That game basically rides on how UT's defense handles Aaron Murray. He wasn't that sharp in Knoxville last year when they won 20-12 and that was the game Bray broke his thumb. If Murray is sharp, they will be very difficult to beat. They entertain Vandy this week, should be interesting as Vandy gave them a fit last year.
A New Year's bowl in Florida and a climb back to respectability is still very much within reach. :powerT:

Not to sound negative, but our success or failure depends on #8. He needs to remember not every series is going to be a touchdown, and to make all of his reads. Sometimes a checkdown is a great play.

I'm still at 9-3 as well, and perhaps with some unique scheming or luck we upset Georgia or Alabama.

This team should have beaten Florida, by the way.

At this point, I really have no idea. I'm not sure about the fortitude of this team at all. The last quarter gave me earily similar feelings to watching the KY game. This team has got to prove something to not only us......but to itself. If they take the challenge and step up....we could win 8 games, but that's as good as I see it. If not, it could get really ugly.

Other than kicking game #8 is my biggest concern as well. You would think Worley would be about ready if we need to go to him. Before it's over we may have to sacrifice arm strength and blue chip talent, for someone let talented, but can manage the game and keep his head in it regardless of situation. We'll see.

Cynical Idealist

It's wasn't just #8, the whole team quit in the 4th quarter. They need someone to kick them in the ass when they first start to do that, it's a cancer that has the potential to destroy the whole season if something is not done about it.

With UGA , we have a lot more than Aaron Murray to worry about . They have 3 running backs they rotate and all 3 are averaging over 5.5 ypc. . We will have much more than AM to contend with , when we head to Athens

We can definitely beat USCe, Mizzou and MSState, if we do we finish 9-3, Bama is loaded again, Ga also. We did not get pushed around on either line Satday nite, which is encouraging but we had too many missed assignments on D, this is Sal's first year and 3rd game I believe we will get MUCH better as the year goes on. Not easy to go into a season completely changing defensive schemes, takes time to gell....

Not to be disagreeable, but the best teams in the SEC win with defense. If you are expecting Bray to out-score teams like Georgia without any sniff of solid defense, then you are in for more disappoiintments this year.

Tennessee has one RB with over 5.5 YPC, and another with 4.4. Georgia is a more talented team, but they have also faced a much weaker schedule that has Tennessee.

(Still, I'm jealous of their RBs).

Georgia is more talented, but they are not so talented that we cannot beat them ... we win 3 or 4 out of 10 games against them.

Sorry, but the whole team did not quit. A couple of big plays by Florida was not the result of the "whole team quitting" as you say. Frankly, your statement is an insult to the players that kept fighting in the game. Blanket statements such as this just really, well, never mind.

If your QB decides to quit, your team can't score. Bray got frustrated and mentally was not in the game. UT was ahead at that point in the game. Defense is a huge ingredient of any team, but you can't win if you can't score (unless your defense puts up points too).

Bray needs to show everyone he is capable of putting the team on his back and carry them to victory. If he was as mentally tough as Casey Clausen, he'd win the Heisman.
